Referee Dissent

When are the NRL going to take a stand over dissent to Referees from players?
Another incident of it last night with Thurston mouthing off , it seems it's okay to do this but you can't lightly touch a Referee.

How about Maranta charging through the ref after a penalty last night, early in the game? Based on NRL's logic from a few weeks ago he should be banned for 12 months.

He was no worse than every other captain every week?

Not sure every other Captain goes to that extent, by all means they are within their rights to question a decision but outright dissent needs to be dealt with across the board.

“Yeah I was just asking for an explanation and, as usual, they couldn’t give it to me so, they said it was a knock-on, but I was questioning who it was a knock-on by — Feldt or myself — and he couldn’t answer, so I’m not sure what they were saying in the box up there in the commentary,” Thurston told Channel Nine.
“We had a chance to win it, that’s what the fans came to see, a match like that. I’m proud of the boys, but we just weren’t good enough tonight.
“We just need to be better at closing out games. We will wait for an explanation from the refs but it doesn’t help us now.

Doesn't seem too bad to me.

It wouldn't have made any difference if the Ref knew or told JT who knocked it on...it was the Bunker call for a knock on that the Ref asked about and that decision would not be changed. You never see the Captains complaining to the Ref about obvious forward passes by their own side that get missed ..and there were a couple in last night's game... that would have given the ball to the opposition in a better position.

Swings & Roundabouts......In all games, Players complain that a certain incident may have cost them the match but never look back at the missed tackles, dropped balls and giving away penalties that resulted in points to their opposition that also contributed to them losing the game.

Anyone notice that as the ref was falling, Kostjaysn (I think) grabs the ref to prevent him from falling. I'm waiting for the MRC to charge him for such recklessness.

That's nice but the dialogue would of been something like this:

What the f**k merkin, why wasn't that a f**king try?

The referee owes JT no explanation of absolutely any decision.

To me even his sanitised version of events shows dissent and should warrant a fine. Saying they "as usual" couldn't explain their decision implies he thinks they are incompetent, and he should be pulled into line.

Mins you, this is golden boy Thurston who has been given free reign to swear and carry on at officials as much as he likes for years. I recall Johns got suspended for 3 weeks for telling a touch judge a decision was f**ked. Thurston has on multiple occasions gone off on the most foul mouthed rants you can think of about refs and never even been cited,

FFS he called the entire NRL cheats and conspirators against his team without any consequences

Mannering doesn't seem to whinge a lot, haven't noticed hoffman whinging either since taking over.
Does jamie lyon whinge a lot? I can't recall him doing much whinging, ditto croker but i could be wrong.
Foran seems to be a 'get on with it' type of player.

It should be on JT to actually learn all the info first before mouthing off. Most coaches and captains (including JT himself in the past) have done so, and just offered a "we'll have to review that and see what happened".

In the cold light of day I hope he looks back and thinks he was a bit petulant about it.
