Refereeing

A couple of blunders, but generally I've enjoyed the reffing - none of these BS penalty-a-thons where a game can't find any rhytmn and teams are allowed to get away with s**tty forward play.

After watching the Dragons v Gold Coast match it was clear to see that the abomination that was the refereeing of Dragons matches in 2010 will be continuing again in 2011.

The roosters get more decisions in their favour then the dragons

looks like the roosters luck is continuing in 2011
The Leilua Try after half time would have been interesting , if it was sent to the video ref

Steve Lyons aside, my comment still stands.

Lyons is woeful and prone to get the big decisions wrong.

I know it's very early in the round, and I only watched one game closely last night (Broncos bs Cowboys for those wondering), but I just wanted to mention that if the refereeing continues at the standard set last night, we're in for a wonderful year.

How good was it to see players actually playing the ball where they were tackled? How good was it to see players actually behind the line for kick-offs and drop outs? How good was it to see the referees back themselves and make a call instead of sending it upstairs? How good was it seeing Bowen's try disallowed, something that probably would have been awarded in years gone by!

I honestly cannot think of a single call the referees got wrong (the touch judge who came in however - absolute shocker), they even got the really tough calls correct.

Long may it continue.

I don't agree
I thought the rucks were scrappy too slow & untidy
I thought a couple of penalties for incorrect play the balls should have gone the other way

you have Alan Shortall screaming " release .. let him go .. let him go "
Tackler ignores him
the ball carrier tries to play the ball .. muffs it cos hes still being wrestled
& gets penalised
awful ruling
I saw several of these over the last 2 days

yeah that 7 nil penalty count in the second half was really Lucky.

ill conceed our dicipline is bad but dont believe that we dererve to have the least penalties awarded to us whilst conceeding the most against us. as was the case last year.

best call ive seen all round so far was kevin gordon being told to go back and play the ball after the ref callled held and he didnt hear it.

love seeing the players play the ball on the mark. biggest gripe from last year was players moving to the side and then the ref penalising the markers.

thought that call was tough on the titans. should have been a scrum to the dragons 10 out. boyd didnt even get to the ball on the full. that and the ref wasnt standing still as mentioned in some of the articles he was backing up.

all in all im liking the rule interpretations for the year, lets hope they keep it up.

Sifting through your poor grammar, I assume you are referring to the PERRET try where still footage clearly indicates he was a metre or so in from the sideline when he jumped for the ball.... Yeah heaps lucky, tool.

I watched the Warriors V Para. Thought it was an excellent game, BUT if Steve Lyons was a player, he'd not only be dropped but cut from the squad on that performance.

good to see them pick up on drop outs in front of the line. They actually look at it now. I thought Manly got pinged for off side till i saw the replay.

a little thing I noticed...
The Broncs-Cowboys match... in the 2nd half the Broncs lost the ball in a tackle (possible strip) which the Cowboys then picked up and played on. The Cows then played the ball and after a few moments were penalised.
Was the penalty for an extremely late call for the strip or for something else ?
Note that I generally watch 9 with the sound down or off due to the f**kwits they use as commentators.

FWIW I fear that when Billy is coaching the refs he is trying to create "mini-mes" and may instruct them to occasionally give a pedantic but correct penalty just to let the players and fans know who is in control....
Just like Billy used to when he was a merkin with a whistle instead of just being a merkin who instructs blokes with whsitles
