Referees coaching players

People blow up now when they don't tap it with their foot and are told to go back and do it again, imagine how much they will blow up when the opposition gets a scrum 20m out.

A simple "tap it with your foot" or "wait till they are behind you" lets the game flow a lot smoother without the need for endless errors. "But players will learn pretty quick", yeh that's why we still give away 10m penalties every game.

I'd love to see this place explode if a ref decided to award a scrum 20m out because the player 'tapping' it didn't release the ball.

I think most sensible, normal people wouldn't have a problem with it. As long as the refs were consistent.

I hate the Bulldogs more than any other person on the planet, but dead set did anyone else hear the ref tipping off the panthers that they are doing a quick tap and to turn around?? Along the lines of "Here they come here they come" or something. Isn't that blatant cheating?

I find the refs are far better at coaching players than Ricky Stuart. Canberra should sign them up

Cant wait for when they dont award tries for people not playing the ball with their foot and halfbacks being penalised for scrums being fed incorrectly.

Again, wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as they have been consistent beforehand.

You may not have a problem with it but I would think the vast majority of fans would. Referees are taught to keep the game flowing, so talking to players is part of that, take that away and penalties are high and would most likely stay high without referees talking players out of penalties.

There's keeping the game flowing and there's telling them constantly what to do. Penalise them consistently and they'll soon learn.
