People blow up now when they don't tap it with their foot and are told to go back and do it again, imagine how much they will blow up when the opposition gets a scrum 20m out.
A simple "tap it with your foot" or "wait till they are behind you" lets the game flow a lot smoother without the need for endless errors. "But players will learn pretty quick", yeh that's why we still give away 10m penalties every game.
I'd love to see this place explode if a ref decided to award a scrum 20m out because the player 'tapping' it didn't release the ball.
I think most sensible, normal people wouldn't have a problem with it. As long as the refs were consistent.
