Ok I know what you're all thinking - "another whinge thread by a Knights fan as to why they lost". And before I start, thats not what this is about. The Tigers, through Benji and Farah were simply too classy for us yesterday. They used the wind to their advantage throughout the second half, something which we didn't do enough of in the first half :(

I really do like watching Benji play - his second try yesterday (although Naiqama was like a statue ...) was absolutely brilliant. His kick for the winger to touch down in the corner showed great vision as well.

I'm just after some clarification on the rules and how a simple game such as rugby league can be made to look all the more difficult by our officials not having a handle on said rules.

My first gripe comes in the leadup to the Tigers first try. What exactly is the ruling on accidental offside? I was under the impression that if a ball hit someone, whether they were playing at it or not who is in front of the person who last touched the ball (from their own team) is deemed to be accidentally offside? Why exactly was it that Hampstead missed the ball rebound off Hodgson into a teammate and then back into Hodgson's arms before he pushed away from Wicks' disgraceful attempted tackle before scoring the try?

Secondly, Jarrod Mullen's penalty against him when in possession of the ball for not rising to his feet. Can someone please tell me how a player who has an opponent all over him attempting to slow the play the ball down gets the penalty against him? Sure, Mullo may have played the ball too quick, but both of his feet were planted on the ground as he played the ball before being pushed back down again. How the hell does that work?

If anyone can shed some light on these incidents I would be much appreciative.

Cheers.

I didnt bother reading your post, I'm going to clarify that straight away, but I've been wanting to start a thread about this for a while and keep forgetting.

The refereeing in all games this year has been absolutely abysmal. The standard has dropped so ridiculously low and it would be costing at least one team per round I reckon (Bulldogs being the example this week - and I was going for the Titans!)

The problem is that they are a protected species, I used to referee park footy and I completely understand that we need the kids to grow up knowing not to backchat refs, but it's gotten beyond a joke. They are completely unfallable despite making constant baffling errors and it all stems back to Finch who I cant recall ever admitting one of his boys has made a mistake.

For the game to improve we need the refs to improve and while they are being sheltered away and not feeling any repercussions for their performance it's just going to keep getting worse.

Yes, the refereeing has been appauling in the last few years. But, I guess it doesn't help when you've got a referee boss who doesn't know anything about refereeing and has never even refereed at top-grade level.

that's why I said he should stick to it, although I don't watch the show because of him and I loved the one with Mike Whitney as ref.

are you referring to the ref not going to the video for that try(just like everyone thought he should)?

they showed on the roast yesterday he actually called the pass from dh forward, & was correct.

Yes, the older version back in the 90s was a lot better than the current. I believe Mike Whitney was co-referee with John Alexander (that tennis commentator at the Australian Open).

Mike was the ref when the series ended.

Shed some light?

Errr....mistakes????

We all make them.

I'd say he ruled mullen didnt get to his feet before playing the ball.

The Hodgo catch was a mistake - simple. It happens

He was pointing out how close the refs strip was to the Tigers. Probably has a point but you know gus, he'll pick on something at the start of the game and you'll never hear the end of it.
