The media-led backlash against the Reg Reagan character has begun, apparently.

For the last 12-18 months Matthew Johns has been lauded as a rising star of television, a media darlng - yet the inevitable backlash has begun. Clearly, with DVD and merchandise sales thriving, he has become TOO successful.
For mine, this is a wowser campaign. The Reg Reagan character might appeal to 'the lowest common denominator', but his appeal is not restricted to that highly stereotyped market. Obviously, as his success attests, his appeal stretches far wider - encompassing the postmodern ironists that see the cheeky glint in Johns' eye, to the good-hearted salt-of-the-earth types that wistfully yearn for the good old days.
It is unfortunate that Reg Reagan has been caught up in the Danny Williams incident, but it seems that the wowsers are adept at taking the opportunities when they arise. I say - leave Reg alone.
