I've asked several times what it will take for you to call season 2005 a successful one, rather than the failure that you've called this one, but aside from quoting some rather generic words with no evaluation criteria, you've never once answered my question.

Jed ,,, check the poll thread on changing opinions regarding Elliot.

I chose 6th or lower. Higher than that will initiate a change of opinion on his coaching credentials.
OK, I'm taking that to assume that if we finish no lower than 6th, you will refrain from calling Season 2005 a failure.

Correct .... that's a step in the right direction and will be an indication that Elliott's 5 year plan is starting to show the results this club deserves ... between you and me jed I cant see that happening. Now you may want to criticise me for making such a "negative" comment but quite frankly I dont give a tinkers root ... you know my reasons for making such a prediction.

The difference between myself and a lot of others is that if results turn around I will be the first to admit I was wrong ... quite frankly I would rather my predictions were found to be incorrect. Others on this forum (as shown by the poll on Elliott) would not consider changing their view on Elliott even if we finished last .... a sad state of affairs imo.

Unfortunately, having the polls held anonymously means that there's no accountability for who's voting. I personally wouldn't be surprised if we've had a number of "visitors" that have attempted to sway the vote.

Personally, I'll be happy if we make it through the first week of the finals, so in essence I'm thinking the same as you. And looking that the playing roster that we've ended up with (assuming Fielden's not coming), and I think we definitely have the personnel to do something. One of the criticisms this season was that we had a "bash them straight up the middle" style of play. We're not as strong in the forwards for '05, I think we're going to be a lot more creative with our backs this season, and will play a much different game. Who knows, it might actually work.

We had a bash up the middle style in 2003, not 2004. The attacking 2004 style was a disaster. I will be interested to see if the club is capable of 2004 ambitions or whether we should only expect 2003 styles.

i really don't think that we played very attacking in 04.

I agree, but they actually tried to do it!

And they didn't play too well in the forwards either for that matter.

Totally agree (as greeneyed said), they just completely sucked at the whole 'spread it wide, bodies in motion, decoy runners, inside balls' idea. It turned into a 'pass left, pass right, pass left again' show. #-o ](*,) Drewy was the master of it.

I'll say it again....

The sooner we bring back our 2002 'forward oriented' game and get rid of this crap of spreading the ball at every opportunity, the better.

Yes, it may be boring, dull and we'll be bashed in the media AGAIN for playing our footy in the "middle corridor" of the field - but it was shown to be very effective. Hopefully the coaching staff don't get their feelings hurt this time round. I reckon we were bullied by some guys in the media to change our approach for 2003. We did, and look what happened. Lovely spectacle, wasn't it?

This is the major sticking point for me, so hopefully this changes.

stand chippo ... you're probably one of those posters who wouldnt change their mind on Elliot whatever the results are, ehh .... stick by the coach pal, dont worry about the fortunes of this once mighty club . :)

yes, I am starting to feel as though I'm one of the few on this forum who have the club's fortunes at heart :)

I am getting the feeling your getting worse, the answer isn't to jump ship when things get tough, and YOU haven't provided a logical solution......people say lets get Daley or Bellamy......WHAT money doesn't grow on trees where does the money come from?????? how does an organisation gain any respect whatsoever if we wholesale change without respecting costs, sponsors will go **** them we'll get someone who can actually manage

Not possible. We don't have the firepower to implement such a forward dominated game anymore. We have to go with a more expansive brand of footy, especially with our purchases in the outside backs this year, but I seriously question whether Elliot has a clue how to coach a team to undertake an expansive style of play.

i think collins will help with the expansive style

but remeber good backline play usually comes off the go forward of the forward pack

Exactly ultra. I certainly hope Collins will help with the attacking play as Elliot has not shown anything in his coaching style so far to warrant any faith in him in that regard.

The only think I've got against Collins is that he has too many letters in his name that are also in Elliot ... other than that I also think he will be a valuable member of the coaching team with regard to organisation around the halves.
