Surely this couldve been in the "respect" thread since it's essentially the same theme, albeit with the usual European soccer references you seem to love so much. That soccer stuff has zero relation to the NRL, as we have mentioned a thousand times on here. We have a salary cap

Agree, plus it's only round three, plenty of time to make the 8 yet.

They mentioned before that only 4 coaches (the supercoaches) had won a premiership in the last 10-15yrs or something silly like that... originally I bought into the 'premiership cap fallout', but its a ruse... Manly/Dogs/Storm shed a couple of players, players take cuts, they bring up some youth and keep on powering through.

The situation we are in is completely different because we cannot attract players, our brand of football has not evolved to suit our roster... and either our youth sux or more likely we are mis-managing them, for example Quinlen was listed on the Wing again for the Cutters this week, surely we could be using this time to train him in a Centre or Fullback position, but no, there appears to be no drive to train and promote kids into 1st grade.

I seldom write a thread, but I do believe that the executive committee of this once famous club need to stand aside. I am not young, I went through all of my teenage years watching the mighty Dragons just win, but even after those unbelievable days the club was virtually always considered by all to be the leagues greatest club. I have watched us battle through the bitter Nathan Brown saga, seen us fluke Wayne Bennett after his problem joining the Roosters and now this most distressing situation. I read the comments that many of you write with such passion and realise that you deserve so much better. The final straw came for me tonight on NRL360 when the question was posed "why can't you get 500/1 about the Dragons to win the premiership. This has come about by sheer ineptness and should never have been allowed to the greatest club of all that has sadly become a laughing stock.

don't watch any crap show that has tallis and matty johns.

I am sure teh LA Lakers, Boston Red Sox, Possibly Wigan or St Helens (whoever is the more successful) in the ESL would fall into the category I mentioned. All successful clubs who won't accept nothing less than mid table.

NRL has a salary cap which is true but not on coaching staff or other staff within the club that make decision that impact the teams peformance. This performance we are seeing is purely the coach. Last season was a disaster, this season just got worse.

The players are not at fault here. It is a great roster. They just need some direction.

You are so right Rev, Vidot plays on the wing for Cutters and centres for Dragons.... oops Nightingale who has never ever played centre swoops in there. What a revelation now we have two playing beside one another with no idea what they should be doing. If we don't change our committee we will be having the same conversations for the next 5 years, just like it was under Brown.

Yes perhaps the greatest indignity, is now the contempt being shown unto us by all and sundry. The youngsters on here don't take it to heart quiet as much as us old die hards do. We once had a proud tradition that engendered respect. Today we are nothing more than yesterday's heroes. Our club was the pinnacle of rugby league, now we are just a paltry shadow of what was.

Old Timer, I'm glad that Sandy Point Dragon has popped a hug in the mail for you, because you have been sounding a tad contemptuous yourself, of late.
But, that is your opinion. And fair enough.

We are just a few game breakers short of a top 4 team.
It is tough at the moment.
But at least the boys are having a BIG dig.
I have seen worse teams - as have you.

Like NonTime111 says - it's "cyclical".
Such is life.

Not disagreeing with your comments as they are true but it goes deeper than that. Even if we had ths few extra game breakers we wouldn't be fairing much better as the issues are at a higher level. We need a coach who can command respect of the playing group. We also need a coach who has a decent game plan and who is flexible enough to move away from it or alter it if needed. We also need a coach who will attract the game breakers you mention. At the moment we don't have a coach that will draw the calibre of players that we need.
We do have some promising young talent but I don't believe Price is the coach to bring the best out of them.

I personally don't buy into the whole cyclical theory. As has been said on here before, some teams are able to maintain a competitive side year in year out. Why shouldn't we be able to do the same??? With good management, clever recruitment, and a good coach who can develop the juniors we have, there is no reason why we shouldn't be able to remain competitive every season.

It is frightening to see how quickly we have fallen from grace. I honestly believed that when Bennett left we would have systems in place that would ensure we would remain a successful club. Looking at what we've become I tend to think that when Bennett was talking tactics or addressing the team Price was out the back filling up the water bottles.

yeah, what is it with "replacement" centres ? We've had the forwards phase with guys like Scott & Prior thrown in & now it's the wingers turn. Surely Green , Runciman or even Vaivai deserve a chance ? Ooh no, don't put the younger players in the NRL squad, you might ruin their confidence - what do they think seeing players picked out of position ahead of them is doing ?

I'd rather see these guys given a proper chance without looking over their shoulder & knowing they have an opportunity ( and some security to prove themselves ). I don't expect these guys to be instant NRL stars, but would like to see them learn from the experience.

It's not a great roster at all mate... Sorry but its just not. Dragons management have massively over rated the roster. Morris, nightingale and Merrin are quality. But even nightingale is out of form at the moment.
We have no attacking centres whatsoever... We have a debutant at fullback (who is talented but is hampered but inept halves), speaking of halves we have none. Weyman is on his last legs, Harrison had forgotten how to run hard or run a line, sorry but it's a very average roster indeed. Combine that with a terrible coach and that's why we can't win a game.

No use talking shite

I'm not too fussed about what others think, with the Dragons you either love them or you hate them. It's been that way for as long as I can remember, though my experiences are not as long as the Old Timers no pun intended but long enough. I can imagine with the Old Timers that living through the 50's and 60's era that St George would have been the most feared and revered sporting club in the world let alone Rugby league club. Dragons would always be the best rugby league club in my mind and that's all that matters to me.

Couldnt have put it better myself Minh......I am an old timer and yes I did witness many many great moments in the late 50s and 60s......even though at times I arc up about our team I will support them come what may till the day I die....teams performance at times and selections are bloody frustrating, but like you I belong to the best Rugby League Club in the World IMO and thats all that matters to me to.....Red and White forever hence my Blood Shot Eyes.....

Things are not good - agreed.
But, at least on the respect angle, there must be something there - coach to players to coach - or the defence would probably just fall apart.

So I hope he - Price - wasn't too busy with the water bottles LOL during his apprenticeship with Benny and can still turn things around.
He has had 15 or 16 months, I know.
But one more week.
One more week....

Yes the cyclical theory is a sham based on unsound logic by proponents prepared to accept mediocrity. The notion of "it is not quite our time yet" is farcical in the extreme.
