There have been a lot of instances like this one lately but if you slow it down frame by frame you'll see he does drop the ball straight down if not slightly fwd and steps over it. Rule of thumb is if your facing your opponents try line and the ball is dropped straight down it's invariably a knock on.
If the ball has gone thru the legs but initially has gone straight down then propelled backwards it's often called a knock on, however a few of these have played on because the ball was dropped further back in the players stance over the ball.
