Results fixed in roosters betting swindle:SMH

The player told the Herald he was stunned by claims within the club that results were being manipulated. But on reflection, he noted there was one player ''who would do it'', adding several others were young and impressionable. ''Now, looking back, I can't say that it didn't happen.''

Exactly the same type of baseless innuendo they used to try to stitch Thurston up over the Stillnox allegations...

THE Sydney Roosters are bracing for a police investigation into an alleged betting scam surrounding the rugby league club's last home game of the season

Yet...

NSW police are adamant that nobody within their ranks has officially contacted the club and that a complaint from the public has not been lodged.

Then there's this...

They are furious that a small group of Roosters ''celebrated'' the loss by visiting a brothel and enjoying the free services of prostitutes

Yet this suggests brothel visits were a regular occurrence, win lose or draw..

''I'm aware that several of the players have been up there [to the brothel] on a weekly basis throughout the year.

And

Bookmakers suspended betting three times before the game after a splurge of bets backed the Cowboys to win by more than 13 points. Extraordinarily, there was little interest in a straight Cowboys win.

Why would it be extraordinary when the margin bet has the potential to earn punters so much more, especially in a game where one side is in such poor form? Again, a sentence dripping with inuendo yet proving nothing.

I know some of the authors of this article have a track record of laying the boot into our game on the basis of rumour and speculation, but surely to heavens they must have more evidence than this?

You'd think when investigative journalists investigate and find nothing, they dont run the story.

I would've backed the Cowboys 13 plus that day too, because the Roosters were coming last and playing like sh*t.

I still expected us to lose at half time. This team is so bad, so inept, that had they tried to throw the game, they would've won it.

I'm not trying to say that this is true, but out of curiosity since I never watched the game, can any Roosters fan comment on any individual performances that were 'out of the ordinary' or who played absolutely terrible to 'help' the comeback in the 2nd half?

Again, not saying it's true, just a hypothetical...

Gee, bookies lose big when they tip the worst-performed side to win. I recall many expert commentators expressing surprise that both Cronulla (who lost to Souths) and the Roosters were both installed as favorites.

I wonder who has an axe to grind by agitating this story...

Mason went missing and Sean Kenny Dowall dropped a lot of ball.. tbh I would more suspect a fix if that didn't happen.

True or not, this does look like something they've had for some time.
Its a mighty coincidence the story is ready for publishing today.

Jesus, even Artie Beetson would have backed the Cowboys to win that game 13+. How any respectable bookmaker could have thought the Roosters would either win or lose close is beyond me. They'd given up in Round 1.

The thing that gets me in Glenn Munsie is claming shock as to why people were taking the 13+ and not going for the straight win at $1.something. I dunno Munz, maybe because they were better odds on a sure thing? Jesus Christ.

Next time a horse gets backed in massive at the races I hope he stands up and says ring in

A few observations ..

1. Do you realize how easy it is to contrive a margin result ? Most teams miss an average of 20+ tackles per game, miss two more and let in tries, not difficult. Most teams drop the ball half a dozen times a game, drop one with the line open .. 18 points difference without looking suspect.

2. What money was put on Easts and Cronulla for the spoon throughout the year ? There would have been a possible $1 000 000 payout turn-around riding on that one result.

3. Which Easts players are from QLD ? ( bets in QLD)

4. The brothel freebies were probably like the old Demtel ads .. "You get 20 grand AND a free root ?

.. I have no doubt this could have happened ( more than once, by various teams/players) but did it ??

On MMM this morning Munsie said the biggest bet placed was $7500 and there was also plenty placed on the Roosters to win on the day of the game.. He said it was a drop in the ocean and whilst he thought some of the betting was strange, centrebet have not requested an investigation.

We've been f*cking up second halves for nearly two years now.
