Return to Mt Smart

This is all good news but I still can't shake the question of why the club put a red line through the original June return match so early. It's still ages away, plenty of time to get it back on the table.
Logistics, I would say?

Something in me thinks (and I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing) that the model of being based in Redcliffe while moving back regularly to Mt Smart for 'home' games might put an idea into management of how we could look going forward. I know it has a less than ideal feel to it to say we wouldn't be based in Auckland full-time, but I feel like we're getting to a point where we need to consider these things.

The club really needs to lean hard on the nrl to get some compensation for the sacrificed weve made over the last two years. I’d be shooting for additional games in nz spread over the next 3-4 seasons, so the home games we played in Aus all eventually get “paid back” and some further consideration to make the draw more favourable with travel.

wouldn't a 'super round' with all games in Auckland be great - probably Eden Park, for crowds

It would, and I don’t think theres any huge reason why it couldn’t be done
As an Aucklander, we need something - for all this talk about the country doing so much, much more has been done (and done to) Auckland...

I doubt it will happen, but if ever Aucklanders were to get out and do stuff it's when restrictions ease and people feel safe (which hopefully isn't far away - although the Govt and media have done so much to undermine any confidence in getting out)

The NRL should be doing whatever they can to assist the Warriors here. They deserve it.

They've copped a pretty rough deal since 2020. Recruitment would have been royally stuffed due to uncertainty about their home base. I'd give them so leeway with the cap tbh but I highly doubt the NRL would approve it.

What did he do and what sentence did he serve? Not familiar with his situation. Lodge might have to jump through a hoop or do but I don’t think it’s near a dealbreaker.
Remember Russell Oacker didn’t get deported back to NZ and played for two more clubs after his sentence so that’s a fairly good indicator of what can be worked with.
Fraud
he claimed to be a good winger but clearly isnt lol

Why not give us 14 Home games at Mt Smart then the other 10 spread around the Country
Welly x4
Chch x 2
Dunners x1
etc

Would love to see the Anzac Game against the STorm to be played at Eden Park

Dunedin has that tremendous stadium. Sure, the city and province are rugby union mad, but that doesn't mean the Warriors should ignore it.

I’d do that but spread the extra games over 2-3 seasons. I thick we’d maximise the benefits that way

Cameron George in the news again asking for all 2023 Warriors games to be in NZ.

It sounds like a good idea and seems to have a lot of support from fans. I wonder if the NRL would genuinely consider it though (didn't Abdo rubbish this idea previously?) and I'm also not sure whether the world has finished shitting itself to plan that far ahead with any confidence.

At the very least he’s establishing a string starting position to bargain for more games. If it ends with a compromise of a few more we still gain something

You really think they’d have contracts if they couldn’t?
but seriously it’s nothing a half decent immigration consultant can’t sort out, you generally have to do something pretty terrible to be banned outright from receiving a visa, as in bad enough to spend a year or more in jail over it. Walsh would certainly have nothing to worry about, he got a slap on the wriest for a minor personal drugs charge.
I'd assume Walsh is a citizen or would be able to get citizenship so he wouldn't have to worry, Potatohead Dutton might try to ban him from entering Oz though.

Lodge should be denied entry to NZ, just because the vagaries of the US system let him off with a slap on the wrist shouldn't matter.

Walsh doesn't have a criminal record:

If the Aussies let Packer stay in Australia and players like Matagi to head over there, then we should at least let Lodge cross the ditch.

Lodge doesnt wanna come anyway, opted out of his contract.

I say f**k em, let them leave. Start clean and fresh with blokes that wanna be here. Maybe a few years of pain, but we are all used to that anyway. I'd rather that then deal with this homesick bullshit for the next couple of years.

I just hope someone starts calling these guys out in the media as the softies they are. Don't sign a long term deal with an NZ based club if you never have any intention of living in NZ. Really not hard.

should, but invariably that’s not how it works. Generally it has to do with what you were sentenced to (ie if you went to prison, and how long for), or whether you were found guilty of certain crimes that are particularly frowned on (any form of sexual assault or offwnces against children).

This is 'storm-in-a-teacup' stuff surely? I don't think one would detract from the other at all. Disappointing if the Warriors are really throwing a tanty about this.

FFS, If true, more reasons to dislike them.
