i thought it was an interesting point how he mentioned that souths were only spending 9.5 million before the takeover and now they had gotten that up to $15 million.

at least the club is competitive financially with other big clubs now.

IMO you may not look people in the eye because you want to keep focus on expressing yourself accurately and the smirks or responses of other people may upset you and cause you to lose focus on your job. His job was to get out in public an accurate picture of my club using words that cannot be "spun" against me. I would not have given a **** about giving eye contact to people I have little time for. If you have ever addressed a large group of people & TV is about as big as it gets, then the last thing you want is to be put off your train of thought. Richo would have had several sessions of going through his answers before the show. What we all saw was a man who was going to say exactly what he had practiced & not be denied.

Those who may say that he was lying, I pose the challenge "What was he lying about? Also just a quick note....Most con-artists have been great at looking everyone straight in the eye when they're selling them a load of rubbish....

Fair enough if he needed to get his head around some figures/statistics, but, he should be ready to discuss 'general' club matters without having to bone up first...hasn't he got an opinion, or was he studying the party line as provided by Rusty & Co.

I have spoken in front of big audiences, I'm an agitator and an ex Union shop steward, so it comes with the territory. Do you imagine that you could get through situations like that by staring at the floor and reading from a pre-prepared script...behave yourself.

Quite honestly i only look at those in the eye that I respect when i talk to them. And when in deep thought I don't stare downwards like Richo did...I just stareblankly straight ahead...and what Richo did was similar. When taught at school about public speaking we were told to avoid distraction just stare straight ahead and avoid eye contact...and like i said...Richo knew what he wanted to say and exactly how to say and didn't want to get off his cliche riddled beaten track.

And why is it ridiculous to have a plan of what you are going to say?? If I'm being interviewed I like to be prepared. And rugby league media is fickle and take everything said at face value so he had to get his words precise. And yes wasn't it obvious that he was towing the line?? Thats exactly why he went there...to tow the line and get Souths point across and he did just that. and yes he did talk alot for very little and did keep repeating himself but the main messages that...1. Souths aren't in as bad a shape as the media beatup suggest, 2. That souths weren't going anywhere 3. That other clubs have been in the exact same position before and gotten through it.

They were the 3 main points and they came across and "at the end of the day" it doesn't matter how the message was delivered as long as it got through to the audience and yes us Souths mob do stick together (Piggins and Sattler have been personally kicked by me;-)) because we have a common goal to "move our in the right direction and move forward"

why does someone looking down when talking or answering a question mean they are lying?

At the risk of appearing pedantic, your criticisms would carry more authority if you had managed to express your displeasure without numerous grammatical mistakes...

I'll give you one, 'heroes'...you have a think about the rest...

I, amongst a number of other posters, commented on some characteristics/traits that are associated with the norms of verbal and non-verbal communication, including lying (being economical with the truth might be closer to the mark), which rightly or wrongly we have suggested Richo exhibited last night...experts, no...observers, yes.

I don't know how much exposure you've had to legal proceedings, but there is a good reason that arrest protocols begin with "you have the right to remain silent". As serving Police Officers and/or Lawyers will gladly tell you, generally guilty persons (during interview) will talk at length in the hope that they can persuade you they are providing information, when really they are saying nothing; give some crumbs, but don't go near anything that can implicate yourself. I believe this was shifty Shane's go last night.

I realise he was on national televsion, so there was no opportunity to stay schtum, but he provided basic information (already known to most), then garbled on about his friendship with Langy, the Knights, and his dogs and chooks...do you, after that interview, know any more on JT's position at the club, what went on with HAC, or the likelihood of souffs moving to the Central Coast, no, thought not.

and what's with complaining about media treatment, this from the Armani brigade that were courting the media throughout the whole of last season...it's swings and roundabouts, or has that tiresome, 'behind the scenes' doco been forgotten already...

As I've mentioned in another post, I admire the way you souffs mob stick tightly together, which is handy as it looks like we'll be seeing the hordes marching to Town Hall again before too long...

only this time it won't be to demonstrate, it'll be to catch the chuffer to Gosford...
