Ricky Stuart quits Parramatta Eels for Canberra Raiders job

The quotes from the article posted by Bartman are just bizarre. The article says that Sticky has a get out clause if we dont make the Top 8 next year. Who has a clause in their contract not to perform?? Surely this is a joke. Or maybe not, only the useless Parra club could come up with a get out clause for someone if they dont perform.

I suspect that the description of that clause might be a little off. I would expect such a clause to give the club the option of terminating the coach's contract on 6 months salary if he doesn't meet the performance condition (making semis in 2014). That is how a normal contract would be structured. There may also be clauses allowing the coach to choose to leave early (restricted to certain ranges of calendar dates), upon payment of a specified proportion of the balance of the contract, or a fixed $$ amount.

Paul Kent on NRL360 just stated that Ricky is his mate and he doesn't want to talk about the Raiders offer because he is torn with his loyalty to our players and returning home to Canberra. Kent texted Stuart after the Melbourne debacle and offered to pay his cab fare to Canberra. In addition Kent states that there is no issue in relation to the announcement of the dirty dozen as any new coach would benefit from the hard decision that Stuart made.

Reading between the lines I seriously think it's a 50/50 bet.

Really don't care if he goes, he's shown us nothing.

Offered to pay his cab fare to Canberra. Yup, just tell him to take the easy way out. Kent really is a fu*king wanker.

If Stuart goes, he will be dead to me. I'll never support him in RL again.

Kent is advising him to go and he stated that they are mates and talk regularly. Stuart doesn't owe our current players anything. That means shit as they haven't shown him anything in 2013. Who he owes are the players that are coming in 2014 bar Hopoate as they all signed on the assumption that he would be the coach.

Seriously, he's getting paid a pretty sum, he's assembled a half decent squad for 14 and he's living in the best city in the world, why would he want to go back to that shithole?

And if he has a clause in his contract that sets him free if we don't make the 8 in 2014, then all the Raiders have to do to get Sticky long term is extend Dunneman for one year and then wait and see how the table is looking halfway through next year before landing Stuart for 2015.

I can't fault him if he does leave. We are a rabble, and if his head and heart aren't in it, can anyone seriously blame him??? Who would be willing to work in such an environment???

Surprised players like hayne and mannah havent decided to jump ship.

Would be difficult for RS to leave, has his daughter at a special school etc in Sydney , and Canberra sucks

I get down to the offices a fair bit, he is always busy, but then again, I am a fan of Jason Taylor.

I can understand that. I mean he has a sentimental attachment to raiders plus the $ on offer but he is trying to rebuild here at eels. With the state of our office at the moment I can see why he is tempted. But we have guys like Loko, Hayne, Morgan, Allgood and some other juniors who have stayed for the duration of sticky contract. I think that says they really like him and are taking in what he is trying to achieve. I believe we would lose a couple these guys if he goes.

I think he will stay. That's my gut feeling

My take:

Steve Sharp publicly stated on Channel 9 news two weeks ago that we would make the 8 next year and seriously threaten for the premiership in 2015. Stuart knows the expectations that our club has and I seriously think he does not want to take the risk of not fulfilling our aims for next year and be prematurely tapped on the shoulder when he can go back to his home town, have security and work with a high quality squad. In addition if he does leave his credibility and all the "I'm in" bullshit will be just that - bullshit.

Plus the offer is probably more than ours with less KPI's. For instance Stuart has a clause in his favour to rescind his contract if he doesn't make the 8 next year for Parra. (Strange I know but it was leaked by our illustrious board or former board member).

i won't be bothered if he leaves, no convinced we are going places atm ... I also worry that if he decides to stay and shit doesn't go well early next year he'll regret not going and it will all go to shit very fast

just need to sort it our either way before october

if Stuart goes I really hope we get Taylor. I thought he done a pretty fair job at Souths and he was excellent when he took over in 2006. Lets just hope if Stuart goes that Taylor would want to come to the lunatic asylum that is Parra.

He will go back to Canberra after he wins a premiership with us over the next year or two, and double his salary

I would be prepared to bet you a 6-pack that the description of that release clause was wrong. It would be far more likely to be an option in the club's favour if we don't make the 8

If Ricky leaves he has lost my respect for life !! If he goes his credibility has gone and that bullshxt about players / squad / coaching staff being a close unit from Ricky would be a joke - as the minute he got a better offer he walked.

In saying that wouldn't be disappointed if Taylor took his place - but it just wouldn't be a good look for the club

As much as Sterlo & Co are saying that Sticky is not the type of guy to leave a job unfinished, Sticky has had many opportunities to hold a presser and tell the NRL world how committed he is to the cause.

On the basis that he hasn't then I must conclude that there is a fair chance that he will be released if he wants out.

I don't mind the idea of JT. Time and time again I hear players from the Roosters saying that their shape and attack is all JT. This is confirmed on many occasions by Trent Robinson when he appears in his semi regular spot on NRL360.
