Giving some thought to the thread, what ticks me off is this bowing down to RS and waiting for him to be happy. He is an employee and a head coach, someone in that position should be leading the club and on the front foot.

If he is not committed, then he is not worth persevering with and will be seen as weak, if that is what his reputation is worth so be it.

Don't understand why he is not leading the club and standing alongside the chairman as Des Hasler did at Manly in their ongoing board blow ups, I have trouble believing he is as weak as he appears at the moment. It is not a good look for him

Don Furner was just on ABC Grandstand. There is a list of 16, 9 they are considering and Ricky ain't one.

I heard someone sorta mention this on TheFilthySpammers, Ricky works for the telecrap, all these articles about the board issues have all come out at the time Ricky got the rumoured offer from the raiders. Are certain people leaking to the telecrap and certain journalists ( eg paul kents talk on 360) giving favourable articles for certain people ( eg the raiders / Ricky) to make it easier for Ricky to leave . E.g Ricky says he is leaving because of the board issues , when really it was the media making them bigger then what they are to give Ricky an excuse to leave.

Kearney was the only coach in recent Parra history to sign senior citizens.

You refer to the ones he signed when he first arrived to a squad that consisted of only 18 blokes and no decent players on the market? He had no choice but to sign them, and to his credit he got rid of them as soon as we didn't need them.

The only oldie Sticky inherited was Fui, and he was re-signed by some merkin at the club after Kearney left.

We need to be a club that lets players go a year too early rather than a year too late. We failed badly in that area with our retention of Cayless, Hindmarsh, Burt and Moimoi. We are far too sentimental to be successful.

When did Ricky say he was leaving and indicate the reason why? Did I miss something

Na he said he was leaving - but obviously something is happening behind the scenes which will hopefully be decided this week

Just interesting the board is all of a sudden in rable - what was happening 3 months ago ? Why wasn't all this reported previously

Agree with the idea of getting rid of them one year too early than one year too late. That is why I think we should 'use' our new Wigan 'affiliation to offload a good retirement deal for Fui at the end of the year.

Kearney started the rebuild when he signed Nolan and stopped (re-)signing senior citizens on long contracts.

Did he stop re-signing senior citizens? Isn't he the guy who inked Ben Smith for 2 more years, Reni, Fui (etc).

To be fair, he started the rebuild with Nolan, but he stopped it pretty quickly (or put it on hold) through his poor signing record of overpaying reserve graders (or old guys) on multiple season deals.

Ricky had to start it all over again. And given his track record of rebuilding, it might be fair to suggest that someone else is going to have to come along and restart it again whenever he's gone (next year, 5 years).

Smith and Maitua weren't old. Smith is only 28 and Maitua is young enough that some other club wants him for next year. Maybe.

Fui is definitely too old. But he was re-signed by his mate Roy Spagnolo: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...-secure-moimois-signature-20120729-236jt.html

Who signs one year deals? Most of the players willing to sign with us know they might not get another contract. They would be holding out for 2+ years.

Plus as we've seen this year (if you'd never noticed previously) most players don't play well the year they come off contract, especially when there's no chance of signing another one. Did we really want a bunch of fringe first graders with their minds elsewhere? At least with some job security they could focus on their footy.

Sticky inherited a side with plenty of room to move under the cap, which is why our recruitment for next year has been able to be so extensive. The downside has been a bunch of guys on the field worried about their futures, which Sticky alluded to in a recent article.

Yeh, but I guess the pertinent point re Maitua is that another club wants him....but for less money than his existing Eels contract....so we get to eat the difference.

That said, I don't have a big problem with the decision to keep him on...he's far from our worst 1st grader.

I can't believe people are judging someone's character on a rumour.
Why don't we all just wait and see, and then pass comment, eh?
