Ricky Stuart

Just read that the Roosters are going to punt Rickyt Stuart with Gould and Fittler apparently to take over.

That means the idea of Gould becoming coaching co ordinator is dead, but what about Ricky Stuart becoming coach?

He's had a bad few years, but he has made three grand finals, couldn't be worse than Raper.

What do you think?

Here's the article

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,,20259363-23209,00.html
The Sydney Roosters are on the verge of sacking Test coach Ricky Stuart, and paying out the final year of his contract.

We can today reveal head honcho Nick Politis last week put all senior positions at the football club, including the entire coaching staff, under review.

Rumours swept football circles last week that club powerbrokers were desperately trying to convince former champion five-eighth Brad Fittler to take over Stuart's job in partnership with Channel Nine's Phil Gould.
Fittler has been reluctant to accept the role because of his friendship and respect for Stuart.

We're told he will be offered the first grade coaching job with Gould returning as director of coaching.

We contacted Stuart to ask him about the rumours yesterday but he declined to comment.

When we approached Politis yesterday, he confirmed Stuart's job is under review.

"We're running a business and not a very successful one at the moment. We're second last.
Other than that, I've got no comment to make."

Another source told us: "There is definitely something happening with Brad Fittler.

"Everyone at the football club was told last week that all positions are under review."

If Politis cannot convince Fittler to take on the job, the Roosters have few alternatives. Outgoing Penrith coach Johnny Lang, who played for the Roosters in the 1980 grand final, is an option but an unlikely one.

Whatever happens, Politis has decided that missing the semi-finals for two years in a row is unacceptable and that the club is in need of a new coach and new direction.

The one thing that hasn't changed is that the man who knifed Stuart is one of Politis' closest friends, and the same cold-blooded person who callously worked behind the scenes to have the previous coach Graham Murray sacked as well.

Hmm, I hope our board is paying attention, they could learn a thing or 2. That said I don't believe it for a second.

*Edit, also just realised the author was Rebecca Wilson, there goes any credibility this story might have had.

hmmmmm ....i dont know about stuart .....he seems to polarise people, much like opes did .....He did have one of the greatest ever players in freddy as the backbone of his team during those glory years. Im not saying that he doesnt have ability though, just that that has to be taken into considerstion

The way he has persisted with that f**king merkin of a hack, finch, worries me too

Maybe the change of scenery would help him mellow a bit though, because his hard arsed attitude seems to have worn thin on his squad

BUT ....I'd have sticky in a deadset heartbeat for the following two reasons

*he doesnt rate kimmorley
*he doesnt rate simmons

My mangina tingles at the thought of sticky coming in and putting these deplorables in their place

Vossy asked Gould in closing - "Gus, will you be coaching the Roosters next year?" Gus replied "100% no"

What would have been the answer if Vossy asked him if he was going to be in a co-ordinating role rather than coach????

Gould had a snug look on his face with fingers in mouth - he is usually a confident speaking man who uses his hands to talk - very negative from Gould in answering.

Good pickup Spidey. Had those senses tingling hey?

The question from Vossy was very direct wasn't it? Coach with Fittler. No. Absolutely 100% NO. Coaching director/co-ordinator? No question therefore no fibbing by Gus.

Bird still has a while to go. At this stage, at any other club he would be a handy interchange player.
To say he is in the same league as a pritchard, creagh, poore, Hilder, Johnson et al, is ridiculous.

Ricky is a shocking coach. Just look at how he has struggled with the Roosters over the last 2 years because of their average side. If he went to the Sharks I think you would just see similar results. Add to that he doesnt develop juniors which is also a current problem for you guys.

A great coach for the Sharks would be David Waite. Respected, has been successful and has a big thing for developing the junior ranks.

More truth than fiction in this one.
Gus will give nothing away when asked, but in no way did he defend or support Ricky on the Roast. He could have said "Ricky is doing a fine job and will be there next year." But he didn't.
Like spidey said that smirk on his dial said volumes.

Ricky upset Gus at the Rorters and from that day his days were numbered.

No go on him coming to us.
His personality is not one that would fit into Shark Park, plus his team's demise coincided with the retirement of Freddy. Freddy ran that team.
Also, he puts way too much pressure and expectation on his players.
