Job threat...Ricky Stuart (left) is tipped to be headhunted to take over from Tim Sheens at theTigers. Picture: Mark Evans Source: The Sunday Telegraph

RICKY Stuart to coach the Wests Tigers next season. This is a real chance of happening and we're not just publishing the story because he is a colleague and mate of ours at The Sunday Telegraph.

We can reveal that despite limited success at the Sharks in the past few years, the Tigers are poised to offer him Tim Sheens' coaching gig.
Sheens recently extended his deal until the end of next season, but we understand a number of Tigers directors are having second thoughts and believe CEO Stephen Humphreys acted too swiftly in stitching up the deal.
We spoke to one director last week who made it clear that Sheens would be asked to move on if the club fails to make the finals.
"I want Ricky Stuart," said the director, who is known to carry plenty of influence. "He's won a premiership, coached Australia and coached Origin."
Stuart was reluctant to comment when we approached him about the interest from the Tigers.
"Even if it turns out to be true, I'd never, ever even consider it while Tim Sheens is there because of the respect I have for him," Stuart said. "I'm also under contract to Cronulla and I love being involved with the boys here."
If Stuart does leave the Sharks, we've got a sneaky tip on a likely replacement - and it's not Nathan Brown. We're hearing the name Kurt Wrigley, who is currently an assistant at the Rabbitohs to Johnny Lang.

We've heard the rumour before & this is admittedly coming from the two biggest gimps in the world Bec & Buzz, but f**k me! who in their right mind would even consider bringing in Stuart. The bloke has run Cronulla into the ground. He might not be directly responsible for their financial troubles, though he is responsible for their playing roster which in turn affects their financials due to how crap they are & people not paying to see them play. If we thought we had trouble with our halves before wait till Stuart gets his hands on them. He has ruined every young halfback he has coached.

Oh f**k no.

I hope this is a simple G UP to get Tim to pull his finger out.

If this does happen (big if) while Folkes is there, we would confirm what most of us have speculated for a long time now, that this club is actually run by a bunch of geniuss.

Ricky Stuart.....lol I most of all like the bit about how he's won a premiership and coached Australia. Sound like anyone we know???

His success rate as a coach aside, look at the style of play his teams have. It's very constricted and heavily oriented around forwards.

Forwards we have that aren't capable of such a style

Backs that are not capable of playing constrictive football.

And he's a man who was coached by Sheens for the majority of his career, that sh*t rubs off. We would in turn get rid of Old Man sheens and pick up young man sheens.

This is a bad move. I believe we should be chasing Nathan Brown or Steve Folkes as our head coach.

Still we need change and Sticky would be low on my list but still better than Sheens. Often its just the process of change that turns things around

Have another look at that picture in the article.

D'you reckon Roycie's been teaching Tim how to tie a tie?

He's pulled up a little short there, hasn't he?

Maybe he gives himself an inch off for every year he's missed the finals since 1912...

At this point in Time, Sheens is the last coach in the world I want in charge of the Tigers, However Ricky is probably the second last coach I want in charge so it may be a marginally improvement but in the end still the same old sh*t.

Apparently Stuart has resigned today and that there is going to be a press conference around midday announcing this.

Thats what is being said in the Sharks forum.

I have a bad feeling about this.

umm... Sheens has won 4 premierships, coaches Australia and has coached Origin.

stuart is a bad move.He has only had success with a open cheque book at the roosters. When his coaching ability was challanged at the sharks he has come up short

I've no probs with Stuart throwing his hat in the ring but I have a real problem with a secret recruitment deal undertaken by the WT CEO and Board.

It should be fair- declare the position open next year and let all interested parties, including Sheens if he would like to continue on, compete against each other with their vision and ideas on how to improve WT.

A secret deal, and with Stuart of all people, is not fair. Stuart's record, as does Sheens, does not give merit to the need for secret deals to recruit.

To be fair I don't think anyone could do much with the Sharks.

Sticky got the Roosters to 3 Grand Finals in a row and then a talentless Cronulla team to an equal minor premiership.

He goes well when fresh. like a first up specialist racehorse.

I would like him to come across.

too much emphasis on tackling in union for Sheens to be succesful.

Me thinks the this w/end and early next week will be piviotal for the future of one Tim Sheens, and Royce Simmons & Peter Gentles at WT.

They need a very good win against the Warriors if the rumours of WT Board interest in Stuart are true. Either way, the pressure builds.

As one of Sheens no1 detractors Iam getting some enjoyment out of all this. For the first time since he was ridden out of town in Townsville people are starting to mount pressure on the great man and the cracks are starting to show. Beating the 2010 wooden spooners minus their two best players will only keep the vultures away for a week or two.

As for Ricky, not my first choice, but at least he may be able to attract a frontrower to the club and instill some fire in the forwards
