Riddell looks good, because he is part of a strong pack.
Ryles, Young, Sims, Timmins, Bailey, Kite, Thompson, etc.etc.

Their forwards domintate, and that gives an overweight lump the space and the time to look good. Our forwards (Hindmarsh excepted) are soft wusses at the moment and there is no way Riddell will have the same impact.

Go back to 2001, where Brad Drew was unbelievable for us. Our pack was awesome.
Once our pack lost the battle in 2002, Drew was nothing more than a short, useless speedhump that was picked off easily.

$300K for a hooker is a lot of money. The eels biggest problem is they have no structure. They need a quality half of 5/8 to guide them around. Tell the fowards were to run, when to run then get the ball out to the backline. We are short of depth in the backline as well. Buy Ryan Cross from the Roosters and have a go at Tahu (I don't think we are a chance unfortunately), I read here that we were chasing Talua but I did read somewhere that he is more than happy in England. Out of those three I would have Talua for his toughness and staight running. As much as I would love to have Witt, Thorman and Smith to step up to the mark I don't think they are the answer yet. Give them a few more years. Stacey Jones looks l;ike leaving the warriors, man what a pick up he would be. Dykes has had three years and since he joined the Eels have been a disappointment. It is not all Dykes fault whom I believe to be a terrific 5/8 but not the type of player we need. We need an organising half. Resign McKinnon would be a good start. If Pritchard wants to come and play at the eels grab him. Not to mention they should be now trying to extend Hindy contract for another 3 years. Don't wait for the year his contract runs out - do it now.
