RIP Neville

Gone too young

Thoughts with his family and close friends

he loveable larrikin played over 100 games for the Eels and finished his career at Penrith, before having a successful career as a police prosecutor for many years.

The bearded winger will forever be remembered as the man who dropped the ball with the line open in the 1976 grand final against Manly.

Had he caught the ball and scored, the Eels may well have won their first premiership - it's something we will never know.

Glover always took that dubious claim to fame with good humour and was a fan favourite who spent seven seasons at the old Cumberland Oval, scoring over 50 tries.

A local junior, he overcame that infamous setback in 1976 to play for both New South Wales and Australia two years later.

"He was a lovely bloke and he was Parra through and through - very popular among the group," Eels premiership winner Peter Wynn told Wide World of Sports.

"It's a sad day for the club."

Glover was at the Eels when they won their first two premierships in 1981 and 1982, but ironically was not in either grand final team.

In 1983, he moved to Penrith for one final season before retiring - and the Eels again won the title.
