I'd say it was a NSWRL issue. Last year the Raiders were told they wouldn't be allowed to field teams in SG Ball and Harold Matthews if they affiliated themselves with a QLD cup side as opposed to a NSW Cup side.

bring back the old reserve grade, best of the youngsters and some old heads mixed in.

Give us a reason to come to the ground early and see some decent footy.

I really miss the old three game club days , the continuity from the juniiors through the reggies apprenticeships finally to first grade.

I'd like that too. It'd be hard to just go back though because not that many first grade clubs actually have reserve grade sides anymore, but moreso rely on feeder arrangements. The promotion of U20's kind of killed that cause it's not the same cheering on 'Blue and Gold' players when they're wearing black and white Wenty jerseys. Reserve Grade was a much better spectacle as a curtain raiser than U20's.

Loved the old days when a kid from 23's or reggies would sit on the bench as a reward for a good game. Proud as punch, he'd pull on a clean jersey to accompany his dirty shorts and socks.

They days of Dave Penna scoring 2 in one grade and then 3 in the next (I don't recall the details) are long gone. I guess it's a sign of how professional the game is these days.

We'd never miss all 3 grades as a kid. Now the crowd turns up with 30 mins to go like the rugby crowds at SFS.

Because the U20's is the curtain raiser for the entire NRL. Foxtel pay broadcasting rights for it as a lead into first grade games.
