Love how unbiasobserver2005 is so biased lol. Who really cares both codes are on the improve. I think the thing you can see from the fox footy channel is there isn't enough decent content to make it worth watching and there wouldn't be for league either. Maybe they should do something like turn the channel into one about all codes of football League, AFL, Soccer, Union and NFL and have all the variety shows based on them on the one channel. Then have All NRL live games on fox 1 all union on for 2 and AFL on fox 3. Who knows but as long as the keep as many games live as possible then all is good. It's the free to air joke dished up by channel 9 that we have to worry about they arn't doing the best for the game.

The only negotiation foxtel has done with Fox Sports (which is owned outright by News Ltd you nongs lol, and Optus Sports was called that because Optus wanted it lol

Fox Sports ownership - 50% PBL, 50% News Ltd
Foxtel ownership - 25% PBL, 25% News Ltd, 50% Telstra

No idea how you thought Fox Sports was owned outright by News Ltd.

Optus didn't order it to be called Optus Sports. Foxtel/Austar had an exclusivity deal with Fox Sports, which Foxtel wouldn't let Fox Sports out of. So Fox Sports created another channel with the same content. Foxtel also had an exclusivity deal with their own channels and the XYZ owned channels, which didn't appear on Optus until 8 months later. Because no other arangement could be made. When Optus made the deal with Foxtel, Fox Sports could resume to be called that on all platforms.

Also, Fox Footy was placed on the basic package due to Digital being released.

No it was placed in the basic to force everyone to buy it. Went into basic, and the price of basic went up by $3. Everyone paying $3 for it, will get them more money than 3% of their subscibers paying $10 a month for it.

Also, Foxtel is very happy with the performance of Fox Footy

No they aren't. They've said once their current deal runs out, Fox Footy will be no more. The AFL has even accepted that the performance of the channel isn't viable to the great expense of having a specific channel devoted to the sport for the 2nd time. SportsAFL lasted 2 years when it was around before dying. The AFL decided to go back down the path of a stand-alone channel again.

how good would a union channel be ... for those days there is no cricket or the mrs is away (and thus no sex to aid with sleep) a yawnion channel could fill a very important void

Could the B*tch from Crikey.com please p*ss off. I reckon the interplay between the The Star and the Times to 'validate' stories is more interesting and accurate than the Drivel you produce Terry T.

We aren't paying extra for FOX FOOTY, it is free.

It's in the basic package, but when it was added the price of the basic package went up by $3. So in effect we're really paying $3 for it.

Yeah, I agree with having an exclusive NRL Channel or the alternative of having an extra Fox Sports channel as many live events aren't being covered as a result of grand slams, major tournamnets etc that take up 20 hours a day on Fox 2.

AFL will however remain a bigger Free to Air game - with Friday night games making the national top 10 on 9 occasions in 2004, the only home and away sport in Australia to do this. Typically the passion in Melbourne, Adelaide and perth will ensure that 5 games per week are shown on Free to air and not be sold off to Foxtel.

how do u figure that? league always rates higher than afl

We've been through this before with these morons.

I remember Bearthur trying to say AFL would go straight to Fox Sports once Fox Footy was canned. Seems this other AFL idiot thinks Fox Sports and Foxtel are the same thing.

Dead set morons.

Since football seems to be the largest share of sports on TV, what do you think about refocusing Fox Footy to become an all football channel? Soccer, league, union, NFL and AFL all day every day. FoxSports 1 still cover weekend NRL games, Fox Footy repeats them all plus any rugby union, soccer, nfl and repeats of AFL games since they're mostly covered by FTA already anyway.

you know what, an extra NRL channel on fox would not be such a bad idea. the only problem is fox finding something to fill all the space with. if you look at the crowds, its pretty obvious rugby is a made-for-tv game, so fox may as well exploit this.

When Oztam do their ratings FNF is considered the same show whether it's NRL or AFL that's why it has made the national top 10 on 9 occasions. But if you add up the figures for Sydney and Brisbane and compare it to the figures of Melbourne Perth and Adelaide which has almost identical sample area population wise, than nearly always AFL FNF outrates NRL FNF.

There mustn't have been 900 odd thousand watching the League semi last Saturday night in areas covered by ATR.

Regional areas don't exist if you follow AFL.

Plonkers.

When the Regionals are added to OZTAM's AFL bias, League beats AFL regularly.

And don't bother with the "ATR doesn't include SA, WA and NT bush", It doesn't cover vast stretches of NSW and Qld either, but it includes ALL of Victorian country and all of Tasmania.

Oztam isn't national, it's METRO

from http://www.oztam.com.au/

OzTAM is the official source for television audience measurement (TAM) data in Australia, covering all metropolitan free to air networks and nationally for subscription television

Get a clue.

A "Classic Matches Friday", a Doco on 1 or 2 weeknights, all the ESL fixtures, A Handful of QLD Cup, PL and BC Matches a week and some of the trial matches would be pretty sweet.

e.g-You could have a "Manly Week" in the Offseason. An analysis of the upcoming squad and Season, a Few Docos (Say...Norths Vs Manly Rivalry, Foundation of Manly, The Road to the First Premiership), followed on Friday by Manly's 6 GF's and the 1st World Club Challenge match and the 1997 GF. I'm sure everyone else could conjure something up for their own teams.
