I don't know any sport in the world that has a ranking system, where a player / country / team not playing wouldn't result in that player / country / team falling down the ranking list.

Us and the Kiwis need to grow a spine and play internationals. It really is that simple

Yes and hopefully as a few more world cup cycles pass and a few more IRL owned tournaments are regulars on the calendar two things will start to happen....

1. We have an international body with their own money, sponsors, connections, power etc.
2. It raises the value of the international game to the point where the ARL and NZRL wouldn't dream of missing the pay day by withholding the Kangaroos and Kiwis

Not controversial at all. But there are good reasons for it.

RLIF are wielding the only stick they've got.

I agree, the rankings make perfect sense, including Australia's. If you want to be ranked higher then you have to play, just like in any other sport.
