The 22k at suncorp wasn’t great. It was well below what I expected. But I think the ashes in Brisbane had a part to play in that. There wasn’t much media attention in Brisbane about the league game, it was all ashes. If advertised well enough the poms could hold off going to the 1st day of the 2nd game. Unfortunately the 2nd ashes game is in Adelaide the day of the WC final. Not ideal. But how often do England make the RL World Cup?

Offer the fans reasonable priced tickets and you won't have to worry about cricket fans going to the rugby league world cup final. It will be full! Let's see what the world cup marketing 'geniuses ' come up with! ?

Not sure how a country with a population of 100k with a team of 100% Australian and NZ based players would result in more of a 'world game' compared to England?

In saying that I'm not downplaying Tonga's influence on this world cup.

The game next week will be a foregone conclusion so the fan support won't be their. They killed the golden goose Tonga what a mistake but those origin lovers are licking their lips. If Tonga had gone to the final next week well RLWC would finally be a legit world game. England and Australia won't be a contest.

Best to blame Fifita for that. He may learn one day to have better control of the ball. Not the first time it has happened to him either.

Just looking at the crowd at the Cricket and there is a lot of vacant seats.

This is the absolute pinnacle of the sport.

The A league crowds aren’t too good either this year.

So it’s not just League struggling with crowds.

The A league suffers from a tyrrany of distance. This is what occurs when the competition is spread far and wide with a population that is mostly in major cities. It's also true that this world cup had impacted the A league viewing audience with a drop of 20percent.
The cricket has the seats already sold so its money in the bank for them.

For fixtures such as this the revamped Parramatta Stadium will be perfect.
I also hate the idea of International fixtures being double-headers, it really diminishes the reverence that they should hold.

Bit of a difference! Test Cricket is very establishment based whereas rugby league is a popular culture football code. One is propagated by the "establishment " and the other survives on cultural/market popularity. Admittedly their are variables but that's a basic summation.

That's a good start! It should and deserves to be a sellout! If sales are slow then drop the price as a full stadium is what this game deserves and needs. Wonder what the Canadians women's side thought of the dissapointing crowd on Friday night in Brisbane? Hopefully they watched the Tonga v England semi. Otherwise they will think it's a struggling unpopular code!

I'm a cricket fan. And a former district player. In recent times cricket has lost its cultural relevance and t-20 has basically saved it. Compared to t-20 test cricket is very much establishment. I did mention variables. Young kids will not play a sport unless it is inclusive and t-20 is that for cricket nowadays. Cricket is clearly popular and exists in all school platforms unlike rugby league which is excluded from elite private schooling. From this an element of establishment backing does exist for cricket whereby it clearly doesnt for rugby league compared to other football codes and cricket. The comment was based on the lack of people at the ground in the test match. Understand cricket is universally popular in Australia however the traditional test cricket is less so for the youth nowadays.

Any Pom on tour would already have a ticket and would have gone anyway. Tonga winning adds every Tongan in Brisbane to the crowd. So a bad result for the crowd. There is minimal latent Pom support around. Maybe if the poms win the cricket a few people might go for the prospect of a reverse result.
