Yes, I’ve said it a dozen times lol!
But it’s a couple of games out of 25 that have been overpriced, ergo pricing isn’t the main issue for some dissapointing crowds.

The final prices are not high, they are on par for a sports event of this caliber.

Pretty sure people in Townsville weren’t swayed one way or another by if 22k rather than 30k turned up for the opener in Melbourne!

Charging reasonable prices for 90% of games isn’t pilferring the sporting public lol

Let’s be honest this is an Australian problem that’s caused this embarrassment for some 9f the people on here.

Nz mostly outstanding, big crowds at pool games and sold out semi

Australia, every pool game barring a couple (1 Sydney &Perth) shthouse, 1 decent sold out qtr in Darwin and other than that shthouse, shthouse semi And a final struggling to sell out.
The common demoninator? They are hosted in Australia. It seems the nrl crowd apathy flows through the whole game here.

It’s not $130, tickets go from $70 behind sticks to $170 best seats. That’s cheap for a major sports event. I paid $160 for half way line. Good luck seeing pretty much any top entertainment event for that price for those category seats.

I was confident the final would sell out, but a few days out and it's not looking good. It will be beyond embarrassing if we have bays of empty seats behind the posts like last week. Pricing is obviously wrong for there to still be soo many tickets available & the "but its a World Cup Final" argument doesn't mean shit if people don't value it at that price. Basic supply/demand tells you demand isn't there for a RL WC at $130 a head. That is the reality.

I admire your post. At least you are admitting that pricing is a major issue . Others on this site will argue till they are blue in the face that the prices are not high. The market determines the price and people are clearly expecting lower ticket pricing otherwise this world cup final would have been sold out!

The Raa Raa boys charge $500 to $2000 for world cup final tickets, depending on the venue.

Pure and simple, RL fans is Oz are deadset spoilt when it comes to prices and have no dedication to the live game. Its an undeniable fact.

Could not afford it! I actually attended the previous world cup final in Brisbane and remember the tickets were a reasonable price. My mate and I have fond memories of the Lang park ground as we defeated the Qld coached Fatty Vautin Tertiary student team 22-18 in 1993. So with decent price tickets we flew up and watched a remarkable game with NZ winning. I bought a Kangaroo t shirt top and a scarf at the ground.I'll be watching on tv this year.

despite what you believe and what we all wish, the Rugby League World Cup is only worth what people are willing to pay, and considering there are thousands of tickets left unsold a few days out from the game, it's fair to assume that a lot of people don't value it that highly.

As the nrl discovered it is better financially to sell 80% at a Premium price than 100% at a knock down price.

It is a bizarre fascination some rl fans have with crowds, I haven’t heard any other sports fan talk About crowds like we do in RL! Probably our insecurity and class chip on our shoulder.

There’s 44k tickets for Final, if we sell 80% of them at a decent price it’s a good outcome for the rlif and development of the game for next 4 years.
The biggest sporting. Event in the world only sold 88% of tickets when hosted in Australia.

When you state"other sports of this calibre". This sport is by far and away the top of the pops as far as a football code can be rated. However, it has daunting obstacles in front of it and compromising its rightful and long overdue top position in world football sport. This is an undeniable problem for this code and therefore it cannot and should not be regarded in the same price brackets as other codes that don't have such issues. RL is a sport spawned by the market place and its players. It does not have the establishment based backing enjoyed by other codes. This is reality. I'm not saying it should not have such backing however the way things are with certain schooling and influences at the top end of town,RL is on the outer so its tact must be to attract mostly a lower socio-economic demographic till it finally gains presence and "friends" at the top end of town. Things like not being recognised as a sport by international sporting bodies are an example of RL being treated as an outcast. The game must persevere as I hope justice will ultimately take place as the way things are atm things are clearly unfair on this code.

But that's not consistent with other tournaments. 2008 the big games had better crowds. 2014 had great crowds. Pacific Tests have been well attended.

The World Cup in 2013 was by far the best attended RL event in England. They have had some very poor international crowds and the ESL average is below 10k. Even last year was pretty horrid. But they made the World Cup work.

And I wouldn't call NZ outstanding. The Tongans in NZ were outstanding, the other games were very average.

Like I have stated $40 to $50 should have been the standard price. A 'thank you' to fans rather than a cash grab would have been my tact. We would not be discussing this potentially embarassing turn out for a final thats for sure!

$50 for the cheapest seats yes, not the standard price.

The problem with the pricing is that the Cat A's are too big and the Cat C's are too small. The Cat A's on the second level should be Cat B's and the Cat B's behind the posts should be Cat C's. Those are the areas that aren't selling.

You said you couldn't afford the tickets which is rubbish. If you couldn't afford the flights/accommodation then alright, but a hardcore rugby league fan doesn't turn their nose up at a RLWC final for $70, especially if they are willing to spend $100s on a weekend in Brisbane.

You could have worked out I was having a dig at the price then? I'm talking more on behalf of the neutrals and genuine battlers out there. These are excluded by clearly expensive ticketing for a code that does not have top end town/establishment based support. Horses for courses logic. That's all. It makes sense. Willing to accept $50 as a minimium but plenty of them I suggest! You have already alluded to problems selling the higher priced tickets. This is the market speaking and telling rugby league "Its too higher price!"

Sadly not a sellout to date that's for sure! A calculated guess but I'd say on the mark.

I assume you mean more committed to the international game, considering Super league crowd averages are around 8000 for a 12 team competition. Why are club attendances so low, but international tournament attracts crowds... is it because like other posters have mentioned that in Australia and NZ we see the majority of these players around 200 times in a season, whereas in England, it is actually an event to see players that you don't normally get to see regularly. It harps back to the need for the northern hemisphere to develop genuine star power that people will come and see if they know that they may not get many opportunities to. People watch the socceroos because A league is crap - its an opportunity to see the best players - thats the point of difference with international league atm.

The problem with that logic is if our star players players stay in SL they are dismissed as average and the Aussie in the street never sees them play whereas if they go to the NRL you get to see them every week. Lose lose.
