But, but, but...if we offer backups longer deals we’ll get them cheaper. So we’ll get them for $120k a year instead of $150k.

That $30k saving a year will land us the quality that we need in first grade.

How are shorter contracts going to create space for marquees? You need backups every year not just the current one.

And longer contracts keep prices down. If you're only offering a one year contract for minimum salary you're not offering anything more than the other fifteen clubs. Then those clubs with more to offer than just money will get the good backups.

I think if you can get a guy quite cheap then there are some advantages to continuity of the player being in your squad. He knows what you do, dont need to start with a n00b every year. In our case he would know our shit system, we dont have to corrupt a new guy

We let Norman go precisely so we could keep Dylan Brown, who was ready for first grade.

I'm sure the club was aware we had Salmon and Smith as backups when they made the decision to release one of Norman or Moses.

there was nothing stopping us getting a backup half .... we had cap room and a roster spot ..... by the time norman departed, smith would have already been renewed for another year had he been on 1 yr deals .... there's nothing stopping us signing a backup half now
