Actually the TCs are both good bombers. In Orange Campese was putting up quite a lot of well weighted bombs...

I was disappointed that we didn't go to the air much at all last week. It's a waste of Joel Monaghan.

So guys, what are your tactics for beating the Panthers?

Do we run the big lads at the likes of Sammut, and their 7 (cant remember his name) and use our nippy guys to run angles and inside balls at their big guys?

Tonguey, Linc and Todd have a clever little combo that can be used, and I would put some short kicks behind their line. Wesser stands back a bit in defence and is usually deadly with open space so I think we target kicks to the corners or sit up in goal.

Second phase would work but do we have the players to offload? Logan is about the only recognised one but Weyman might be able to.

Sammut is our #7. Williams was there last week, but lost his position.
Our 5/8 is Maurice Blair... he is a pretty good defender, so i wouldn't count on running at him working.

Best bet would be putting your pacey blokes onto Rooney and O'halloran, and sending your mobile forwards at Pritchard and T who are very lazy. Putting the ball up for Wesser and sending Monaghan after it would probably work a treat also.

please email the raiders and inform our super coach of your game plan. I just bet we will do the exact opposite....

After paying Todd Carney, that wouldn't be much :p

Seriously, you guys shouldn't have much to worry about. Unless Jarrod Sammut plays out of his skin and manages to cover halfback and 5/8 on his own... our attack should be pretty basic and predictable.

Interesting point...

Wonder if our mate Todd is up for a little extra attention this week.

the fact that we dont have much to worry about is worrying enough :?

we tned to lose the ones that we dont have to worry about ... especially on anothers turf

My last pre-match comments ..

Hopefully we go into this game with tactics that highlight one or two expansive moves. I suggest that if we charge it up the middle all night we'll eventually make those mistakes that cost us dearly.

We've got the players out wide with speed that can take advantage of some clever kicks ... the likes of Zillman and Graham can rush through the defensive line and collect kicks with the best of them ... if we dont collect the pill we at least have Wesser and co pinned down in their quarter for the best part of three tackles thereby keeping them pinned in their half.

I'd also like to see a bit of enthusiasm by our guys to start the game off ... this is where I suggest Weyman starts off the bench ... if there is one guy who can knock over defenders in his wake it is he ... and that is the sort of encouragement the other guys need.

I'm not sure if I can stomach zip-2 to start the season especially at the hands of Elliott.

GO THE RAIDERS !!

very good point
my theory is we turn up to play, hold the footy and play our natural game and we'll do it easy
but if we take penrith for granted, they'll be good enough to do us in.

Even though both teams lost first round Penrith are under a lot more pressure than us.If we can build some pressure,be committed in defence imo we will frustrate their inexperienced halves into high risk plays and turnovers.

Penrith will come out firing and we just have to hold tight early on. They also have a happy knack of scoring against us either side of half time.

Target their halves and wrap up the ball carrier. We give away FAR too many offloads and the pamfers are the type of team with the type of speed that could exploit that.

Oh, and bomb the crap out of their back 3 - especially if Goowin plays (I'd hope that's NH's reasoning).

Weyman out Thurling in. Goodwin in for Best although Best may come back in for Zillman. Withers likely to play. I hope the person who made the decision on Costigan last week is not making the decision on Withers.

Most of the Panthers fans me included aren't too confident of a win over your mob. If Penrith get into their mode of giving penalties away early the Raiders will capitalise and gain confidence. The start is so important as could be the weather conditions. Good luck (not too much).

More likely we too will be giving away stupid penalties and knocking on ball in our own half. Expect a very scrapy affair.

What a cripple fight. I think we watched teams 15 and 16 go round tonight. Both teams were dreadful and with the amount of ball Canberra had in the second half, they should have put the Panthers to the sword.

Campese still makes far too many mistakes for my liking and his fumble in the play the ball ws reminiscent of his f**k up against the Cowboys last year which ultimately cost us the game.

Carney was quiet and his kicking game was poor. Goodwin was useless and is heart attack material at full back. The only players I thought played well were Thurling, Plum, Monaghan and Chalk. Tongue was solid as usual but the rest were diabolical for the most part.

Carney is no halfback, yet again showed it tonight. Our attack was so disorgainsed and surprise surprise our attacking kicking game was pathetic. Campo did some alright grubbers but that was about it. Carney should be at 6, Herbert 7.

I thought our best forward was thompson.

Plum and Picker played well and more than filled the hole left by costigan and turner.

I still dont know why thurling isnt named every week, the blokes gold.
