Rnd2: Raiders v Panthers

Having just witness a repeat of late season 2007 in Rnd 1 2008 lets hope the side shows massive improvement against the Panthers ... if we dont we will again get beat and have a zip/2 record as enticement for patrons to our first home clash.

Changes are def needed (discussed in other threads but repeat here if you wish).

If zilly misses the clash due to concussion I'd like to see Bronx given a go. Thurlo def needs to come in. Carney is a great player and Henry needs to structure more plays around him. I'll leave the rest to the coach.

Hopefully the team doesnt look like they just met on the bus to the ground with instructions written on Weyman's arse bending over while standing on seat 1. Seriously I know everyone rates Henry, blah blah blah, but some of the stuff we strut onto the field makes me wonder at times.

The coaching and changes will be taken care of by Henry. Very confident of a better showing against penrith, and a win infact

im more concerned about how many of you blokes are going to show... ACT locals get a reprieve, long trip to penrith, but every one in sydney should do their best to get out to this game and show some support and faith in this team. Young blokes too, the game ends at 9.20, enough time to hop a train back to the city for a good night if thats what your into...

Get out there and support your side

Last night was dreadful to say the least. We have to make changes and several are needed. Assuming Zillman is fit I would move him in to 5/8 (assuming Herbert is still out) and bring Goodwin in to fullback. Graham is not a centre (only scores tries from intercepts and kicks ahead). Swap him with Purtell. Best is useless, I would move Monaghan to the other wing and bring in Marshall Chalk. Now the forwards, we seem to have too many workhorse type players i.e. Turner, Miller, Thompson etc. IMO Picker, Thurling and Plum must be there (assuming they came through their games). I am also assuming that Costigan and Withers will be out and TLL will be given at least 1 game to prepare for first grade. I would think Hinchcliffe is the obvious replacement for Withers and I look forward to him catching up with Priddis again. Campo to the bench.

Also, Todd Carney needs to play for 80 minutes and given he is now the highest paid player in the club, it would be expected.

My side for next week;

Goodwin
Graham
Chalk
Purtell
Monaghan
Zillman
Carney
Tongue
Turner
Picker
Weyman
Hinchcliffe
Logan

Bench Campo, Thurling, Tilse and Plum (Costigan and TLL to come in when fit).

I think that backline is more of a threat and the forwards better balanced (have dropped Thompson but wouldn't argue with Tilse or Logan) with Campo covering backrow and centres if required.

With the heat and interchange reduction we need more creativity off the bench. The one out stuff from Weyman,Tilse (with no support runners),plainly isn't working.I'd start with Weyman/Thurling and bring Scott Logan off the bench. He is a ball player and can be tough to hold out close to the line.

Agree we need to create 2nd phase play , we cant keep playing one off the ruck or just turn the ball back inside as we did last night. Logan tried to offload last night but either he didnt have support or the support was closed down ( and it usually was Zilly) this didnt happen after zilly was hurt.
I think we also need to use our bench better, Thommo and Logan spent to long off the field , they were our only two forwards that made any impact. Thurling needs to be added , he has alot of punch and hits the line at pace , Turner was ineffective so I would include Plum for him.
Zilly
Goodwin
Graham
Monaghan
Purtell
Herbert
Carney
Tongue
Plum
Picker
Thommo
Hinchcliffe ( no other option )
Logan

Campo, Weyman , Thurling ,Tilse ( get him running wide )

I like you side mate ... Zillman in the halves ... now that's something I want to see trialed.

The only advantage i can think of keeping Colin Best in against Penriff is his height advantage. But he needs punting for Kelly/Milne,two hard goers who at least try to fight thru the tackle.I mean fffs has there ever been a more pampered pooch.
Its going to be an ugly, scrappy matchup so we need hard heads who will put in.

Besty is one of those softly spoken nice guys who you just wish had a bit more mongrel.

Which reminds me I need to set up another thread.

If I know Elliott he'll have half of a Plan A sorted out before game day but nothing to follow it up.

Neil Henry would be well advised to send the ball out wide and chance our arm at more than the usual count.

I'd be expecting a few deft kicks over the defensive line with Zillman and co running through to gather.

Belt it up the middle and we'll come back home beaten by Elliott's dour tactics.

Note that the U20's game between Panthers and Raiders will be shown live on FOx this Sat starting at 3:00PM ... pre-game starts at 2:30 and the main game starting at 5:30.

If you havent got Fox get over to a club.

Granted Zillman is a future great but you would have to be out of your mind to make him captain tongue is the obviouse choose if you watch the games closely the little things tongue does week in week out that go unmentioned like the countless try saving cover defence not to mention the 40 to 50 tackles a game more then qualifies him to be captain and if that doesnt confince you just watch the dramatic drop in performance when tongue isnt there
