Robbie Slater Unleashes on Craig Foster on twitter

Foster already tweeted making it personal means you lose the argument.

Who cares what he did? Probably got pissed and flogged someone about 20 years ago. It's irrelevant to anything and Slater is using any excuse to get it out there.

Slater is an attention whore who is trying to become a shock jock, look at all the shit he came up with about Harry Kewell.

Do you watch any PL games not involving Arsenal? Because Route 1 as a tactic is still very much present among many clubs. Its use is not in decline. See Liverpool on the weekend? Once Carroll came on, pretty much all we did was hoof it long for him to chase after it. And guess what? The opposition, Stoke, did likewise for Crouch. Aside from the current PL Top 5, all clubs continue to use Route 1 as a tactic.

I used to dislike Foster and his constant promotion of the continental short passing game (it doesn't matter how you win, so long as you win was my thinking), but having seen Barca play live twice in the last 12 months, he has a point. It's far more effective than the regressive English way of thinking.

Shame that Slater had to make it personal because it nullifies his argument. I think the only valid criticism of Foster from Slater though is that he's too gutless to have a crack at coaching himself.

Problem with the old "Barca are doing, so we should copy them" argument is they have the likes of Xavi, Iniesta etc.

So if Australia were to to do that style, would they look as good?

You play to your strengths.

In the PL not even Bolton play purely route one anymore. Swansea and Nowich the promoted teams both play very good football, a long with a host of other clubs.

Sometimes a direct ball upfront is a good tactic, but no club use it exclusively anymore except for maybe Stoke. But they have built a team for that to work, so why would they play like Barca all of a sudden?

There is nothing regressive in the tactics of the PL.

No, but with positive mindset of Osieck we do look and play a lot better than we did under the defensive negativity of Verbeek.

As a general rule, teams that play with a positive mindset do better. Problem is though is that we are not the manager so its easy for us to say he should do this or that.

Defensive negativity is a safer bet. If you don't think your as good as the team you are playing against, its very easy to go defensive.

Or it could just be how the manager likes it. You don't win things playing defensive, but you don't get stuffed, and you can have a decent career by being the guy that wins just enough.
Not the best for an international team though looking to go places.

Any recent bias aside, watching Stoke play is enough to make you want to gouge your eyes out. I don't know how you could be a supporter and put up with going to watch that, game after game...

Can't think of too many off the top of my head, but for a club as big as Victory, Zola would've been a decent target.
Swansea play nothing like that. As we found out yesterday. And that's the reason they're midtable instead of relgation zone where everyone expected them to be. Newcastle is another team that has began to move away from 'Ugly Football' since Carroll left. And Liverpool plays the right way when they have the good sense to bench Carroll.

More and more PL teams are playing that way and they're drifting upwards while the ones not adapting are drifting south on the table.
