Robbo vs Chalk

I know 97% of you think Chalk is some sort of god, even though he has failed to win a starting wing spot, with so called relatively weak competition, but I will overlook your flaws in order to have a discussion about the 2 players.

I was pretty upset when Robbo left the Raiders, he has everything that you guys say Chalk has, not scared to put his body on the line, gives 100% and has heart.

The only drawback with Robbo was his dodgy hammy's, but we signed Frawley.

imo Robbo is the more complete player, who offers more and is definately more reliable, making him the better of the two. We should have kept Robbo over Chalk when we had the chance.

What do you guys think?

Robbo does the little things right IMO. Although Chalk runs the ball hard he barely ever makes a break......

Robbo's always had a problem with finding the tryline. I'm not sure what his career strike rate is, but it's probably around Howell and Purtell's which are pretty woeful. Chalk's been the victim of being in Schif's shadows, remember when Schif was injured back in 04... Chalk was one of our best performers who never hesitated to hit a gap. Being shifted around to the wing, backrow and playing as an up the gut runner hasn't exactly helped him cementing a spot in the side.

I think Robbo has been a great buy for Manly this year. Whilst he may not be the "complete" winger, as PQ49 said, he does the little things right. Generally hes safe under the high ball, his handling leaves nothing to be desired and he has a fair amount of speed. Over the period of the season, his footy has improved since last year and ultimately I think it will continue to improve into future seasons.

Sounds like a comparison between Robbo and Frawley would be a better one. In that case, Robbo by a country mile.

Against Chalk, Robbo's got pace but Chalk throws his entire body into tackles, and runs at the line as though he has no thoughts of self-preservation. Between Chalk and Robbo I'd stick with Chalkie.

Robbo is too small. Needs to bulk up a bit I think. Having said that, I reckon he's been playing pretty well for Manly.

Yeah, I was thinking about the very same thing the other day. I shed no tears when Robbo was released, but he's done a pretty good job this year.

He's certainly been more potent than the guys we've had on the wing this season, but having said that remember that he's usually played outside a dude called Steven Bell.

If they play Lyon where I assume they will, he will improve out of sight. He's the type of winger that if the centre can make something out of nothing, he can really finish it off. Can't wait for season 2007 and Robbo playing outside of Lyon.

As does good ole Robbo, remember his first game where he got absolutely whaled in the ingoal area. He still got up and kept going.

Robbo's hit ups are more effective that Chalks, in that Robbo plays like a winger is meant to, Chalk plays like he is Billy Slater, without the skill. The inside ball/grubber through worked once, out of 50 times, Chalk is a miserable failure compared to Robbo.

Frawley couldn't score if a chick was comered. Chalk would struggle, but eventually make it. Robbo would have tapped n gapped by 9pm.

Well all those saying Chalk is made for wing cause of his defence just look at Brian Carney the so called best winger in the world.

id stick with chalk but robbo has improved at manly and seems to be over his injuries... his football game still seems to be a majority sideways adventure.

Robbo seems alot more sharp in attack, he was always a good defender. Right now, Robbo is better than Chalk.

how many tries did he get for Manly this season? I'm tipping the same kind of career strike rate he had here. I'd love to get some backs that have some real finishing power and end the season with 16+ tries, hopefully someone over 20 for the year.

Chalk doesn't score many either but he has great utility value... I don't see him as a future winger for us anyway. But overall we need better backs.
