Eastwood is garbage as an actor. Absurd.

Great director though.

No he isn't. Unbelievable in the Spaghetti Westerns, Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby. Also played a great role in Grand Torino.

Derp!! One of the great Western actors of all time, the Outlaw Josey Wales in an all time classic which he also directed. Add in his roles like Dirty Harry and even late in his career he nailed that role in Gran Torino. One of my favourite actors.

The thing is weak acting can sink a film worse than bad writing. Movies are a group effort. So obviously the director is the dude (or dudette) that holds it altogether.

That said acting is an art. There are certainly bad actors. Like to give a tv example from the other day there was a scene in game of thrones where Natalie Dormer and Jack Gleeson are playing a manipulative woman and a psychopath king respectively. Most of that scene is in the little subtle things they do with their body language. Now the writing was good as well margaery (dormer) character was trying to work out how to play joffrey (gleeson) so she gently went fishing to see what he liked. When she worked out it was ego she pushed a bit harder and then he responded by talking about violence and then she started to act like she was into it.

Now if those two had acted like stilted robots it would have taken away my enjoyment of that scene.

Can't be f**ked reading this thread since I last posted.

All I'll say is both De Niro and Pacino should've retired after they both did Heat together (i.e., in 1995).

Nonetheless, they've both left us with great memories and classics to watch on DVD.

Eastwood isn't garbage. Barely any actors are garbage. Eastwood in his films did exactly what was required of the film, the script and the character, which is what acting is about. You don't watch The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and say it was bad because Eastwood is in it.

I'm watching Star Wars II right now and it is cringeworthy. Yes the acting is bad but they are doing exactly what Lucas wrote and told them to do. It is the fault of George Lucas the film is shit not the actors. Rarely will bad acting ever sink a film, just like good acting doesn't make a film. Clearly if actors acted like robots it would be shit but hang on, why would a director or anyone else involved in a film cast an actor who acted like a robot, or keep a scene which was like robots talking?

My three favourites are......

Jack Nicholson

Anthony Hopkins

Dustin Hoffman

Clint Eastwood was a twat actor. Bruce Willis - take him or leave him. Johnny Depp is OK. Robert De Niro the same but Al Pacino was better.

Funny how the impressionable clowns haven't mentioned the likes of Steven Seagal, Jean Van Damme, Chuck Norris  , Arnold Schwartenegger or Sylvester Stallone. Steroid fuelled meatheads if you ask me.
