Can't win competitions on ifs and buts. In fact the team who has more ifs and buts at the end of the day is the loser, the winner utters neither word and (as the Americans would say) goes home and special cuddles the prom queen
And if we had an organizing half like a kimmorley, thurston, lockyer who would've sensed this and taken the initiative to change the tactic out of their own accord and confidence (instead of being a robot), it could've been a different story too!

Same answer as above. It was just that extra bit that was missing!!!!

Look, I like Robbo. Good guy. Honest and gives 100%. I would just like a more skillful, organizing halfback.

Call me old fashion !!!
I understand what you`re saying, but since both Mortimer and Robson kept kicking for that corner, I can`t help but feel that they were Anderson`s instructions - and it would take a brave man to go against Daniel Anderson`s instructions!

yeah - someone like cooper cronk would have seen us totally screwed

robo did great last year - we all loved what he did - he's an outstanding defender for a halfback ..... but there are limits to his game - I think we tend to overrate a player's actual abilities when they achieve above what we expect from them, clouds our judgement a bit at times

And of course the opposite is true. Cayless, Matt Keating, Joel Reddy, .....

his game against the dogs in the prelim final was outstanding - probably a big part of why we won the game

i'd still rather a player like cronk tho  .... i'd be pretty confident saying, switch halfbacks in last yrs GF and the result goes the other way :D (not saying robo was bad - just a classy half can change a game)

But you might just as easily say 'put Lockyer in for Mortimer' or Hodges for Reddy or Civoneceva for Cayless or South Sydney`s hooker for Matt Keating or.................or Langlands for Hayne. I mean, all this talk is silly.

wtf? - i was answering a specific question - ie would we be better off with a skillful half instead of robo - I say yes .... i know it would never happen, but I am just saying we'd be in a better place with a more skillful half

we did very well last year - tbh we probably over achieved (not something we do often) .... infact I reckon there's a good chance ppl will be disappointed if we can't play at that same level this year - we played out of our skins last year, it'll be hard to stay there .... but our kicking game was never very good and I reckon it was probably a big part of us losing the GF - a half who kicks better would have helped massively

* gives pete the pat on the back he's fishing for *

to be fair, he was ridiculed after his assesment of him in a trial and on that occasion he was 100% right, he predicted a big year and well...he had a big year.

Robson will have confidence this year which will equate to him being more flashy. It could be good or bad.

yeah - and i gave him a pat on the back :thumn

Who cares. I don't.....I am not looking for pats on the back. I have never ever been that sort of person, and I hope that is not the impression I give.
I love all sport, and I love battlers..Show me an underdog and a trier, and I'll show you someone I respect.

Yes, I understand what you`re saying, but my point is you could say that about Mortimer too. His kicking game isn`t all that flash - pretty hit and miss if you ask me - and then you could go on to say that Parramatta would have done better if they`d had better players in EVERY position. I just think it`s a pointless argument. And then, of course, what the Colonel was saying - if Robson hadn`t made so many try-saving tackles in the last half of the season, we might not have come within cooee of the grand final. And he was man of the match in the game that got us into the G.F. I mean, you can`t be happy with a player all year and then all of a sudden want a different one in the grand final. It doesn`t work like that.

 cooper cronk might have made a try saving tackle given the opportunity too

whatever .... i would take morts over a sh*tload of 5/8s in the competition - i'd take alot of our players over their corresponding players too .... I don't hate robson, I just think our kicking game (and probably passing game - not offloads, passing) is very weak and that is primarily the halfback's job - I'd rather have a more skillful half than one who's best trait is defense ..... in saying all that, Robson was great for us - excellent defender and great backeruperer

Don`t get me wrong - I definitely see your point. Robson is fairly slow, he doesn`t have a great kicking game (although he puts some very good ones in at times) and he doesn`t appear to have a great long-passing game. (I also believe that Cooper Cronk is the most under-rated half in the NRL, and I can only imagine how good Parra would be with him in the side.)) However, I don`t think that a half-back absolutely has to have those qualities. Robson is a terrific link-man; he is an immaculate cover-defender, and it appears that he will follow a game plan right to the death. I also think that the kicking game is very much a five-eight`s role, too. I`m certainly hoping Mortimer improves in this area. As far as K. Keating is concerned, we still don`t know if he`s up to being a regular first grade half. To me, he seemed a bit erratic - just running around, hoping to link up with someone or hoping that something would happen. Very talented runner, but I didn`t see anything else that would make me want to choose him over Robson at this stage.
