Rock Band v Guitar Hero

Hey folks,

Dont know if its been done in here, and anyone playing the games has probably done it a thousand times on their respective forums but Ive a few points to bring up and want others opinions.

So I got GHWT for christmas, with just the guitar, and loved it. Im a muso so instantly fell in love with the concept. Quickly played through it and bought GH Aerosmith and GH 3 (all of these on PS3) I then got into downloading songs, which is were i suffered my first dissapointment.

So for my birthday a bit over a month ago I got Rock Band, just the game, and sunk my teeth in. I've already downloaded 50 songs (at a couple bucks each!) and went and bought the drum kit the other day.

These are my issues:

1: Why doesnt GH update its content like RB does?
2. Why does GH feel the need to keep bringing out new games instead of centralising their content?
3. Why can't i buy the GH drums on their own?

I would have happily stayed in the GH franchise and spent at least 200 bucks that is now in Rock Bands pocket if they had of done some simple things that their competitors are doing.

Im not saying this as some RB fan boy, I love both games, but in terms of having heaps of songs, lots of instruments and the ability for all my friends and family to sit around and play along without changing games around and stuffing about, RB is killing it.

Saddens me because GH make great controllers and has great gameplay.

Anyone else have opinions on one of the bigger flame wars around?

Lucky  I got Rock Band on the Wii so I can't download songs until we get Rock Band 2. Annoyance. Just got GH Greatest Hits too, not a bad game.

They're a few questions many people have been asking for awhile. There is no answer that could be given really. Just the way they do things I guess...

Also wondering if anyone on the forum uses the Guitar Hero Community thing? Not a bad way to track high scores.

I'm on the Wii mate.
Haven't had a chance to upload the Greatest Hits high scores just yet since I'm using Mum's Wii and not mine. Great setlist. Free Bird, amazing song.

instruments are better for GH for sure, songs better on RB, being able to download whole favourite albums from the likes of chili peppers and pearl jam is awesome, i find that i dont know half the songs that GH want me to download.

GH has better instruments, and imo is more enjoyable to play, due to the slightly wider timing window on hits.

In my opinion:

Instruments - GH has a better guitar by far, RB has a better drum set. Microphones, meh, the tambourine thingo on RB ain't bad.
Song List - On the CDs it's quite even, some good ones between the two.
DLC - RB easily.
Enjoy - both really, but the fact Australian Wii owners actually have DLC at this point in time, GH wins.

I have all the GH games (except the Smash Hits one), and none of the RB ones. The RB disc songs hardly interest me, and when I've played them they rarely seem to challenge (if Run to the Hills is the hardest song, then it doesn't say much about the rest). I've been tempted to buy RB just for the downloaded songs (Maiden, Pearl Jam, SRV etc) but its just not worth the money.

Smash Hits is fantastic. Sh*ts over Metallica imo. Run To The Hills isn't too bad, Green Grass And High Tides is an absolute whore of a song to beat though. Did it once, never again. Didn't beat it on my own console so my high score doesn't register.

Rock Band 1 has the easiest and least interesting song list out of any of them.

Best are GH2, Rock Band 2, GH3, and Metallica.

RB1 had some good ones. Foreplay for one. The cover for Run To The Hills was awful though.
My tolerance for Metallica is low, Aerosmith I found to be a much more fun game.

The love for DLC annoys me a little bit.

It is way over priced at around $10 for 3 songs. That means $70 would buy you 21 songs as opposed to the 50 - 70 that come on the discs for the same amount.

Buying the discs also gives you access to music you may never consider. Before GHII I'd never heard an Allman Brothers song, same goes with GH1 and Blue Oyster Cult.

GH Metallica at $70 is far better value in disc form than what it would be if it was released as DLC.

My big issue with GH is having to swap discs, RB has it right in that you can imports songs from RB1 into RB2.

Wii can't do import, which sucks. Sounds like an easier feature. I don't mind paying for DLC, just can't do it too often. When I actually do get RB2 I will probably go nuts with Maiden/Cooper etc. but GHWT DLC hasn't been crash hot so far.

Rock band = Dragons
Guitar hero = Roosters

both do roughly the same thing just rock band does it way better.

if you can import rock band 2 you are on to a winner. its even better again. and with the exporting and DLC i never struggle to find a song to play.

So Roosters are more popular in Australia?
Seriously, how do you think it does it even better?
Both have great setlists...

RB2 plus RB1/ACDC and the DLC equals a setlist that GHWT just cant touch.

guitar hero just keeps bringing out new games, but that is sh*t when you are having friends over. You have to keep swapping discs back and forth instead of just loading up a new song
