Jason Newstead apparently left Metallica because he didn't like the direction their music was heading.

Looks to me like he's finally found a band that'll give him creative freedom and the chance to thrash out once again. Sounds awesome. Plus he'll have a stylist to show him what a "true" rock star really looks like. Hopefully he'll give us a few fist pumps per song to show us how truly rockin' he really is too (I'm sure there'll be a choreographer on hand to show him how it should be done). What a deal, it's every musicians dream.

Ummm i think it would be pretty good, I've yet to see a better drummer then Tommy, anyone that can flick the sticks while upside down must be pretty talented. Gilby i heard left because he had a falling out with Axl and at the time couldn't cope with the pressure ( 12 years or so ago) which isn't unusual and Jason whom since left... Metallica have gone way down the drain and sound nothing more then Nickleback.

It could be argued though that these three while being decent musicians, basically hitched a ride on the songwriting talents of Nikki Sixx, Hetfield/Ulrich and Axl Rose respectively. None of them were particularly central to their bands' success (withthe possible exception of Lee).
