This was always on the cards. They were always going to be enthusiastic and we didn't give it a test match preperation and were coming off a game 3 days a go. Furthermore as far as talent goes, there is as much in this England A team as the GB Test team. The only difference is that this pommie team lacks experience and maybe some bulk in the case of guys like Hock, Burrow and McGuire. Many of this team will be Test regulars for Britain very soon.
I think this says wonders about 2 things 1. the standard of the British youth coming through and 2. The standard of the Super League is ever increasing, i think it's gaining at a super rate.
I think so. There was a point either side of half time after a competitive first thirty or so when things were really looking ominous for them. They looked tired, the Aussies were making in-roads and were able to move the ball quickly and split England open. Out of nowhere England managed to do the same and it lifted them. From that point on England were the dominant side.
Five tries a piece I think with goal kicking the difference.
My mate who was at the game just text messaged me and said Burrow got the m.o.m award but the Aussies couldn't handle Danny McGuire and he almost won it for them at the death, also special mention to Danny Sculthorpe and Andy Lynch, I believe both players are better than Barrie McDermott. Wonderful effort considering neither had played for 6 weeks.
Thats another important factor alot of these English lads haven't played or a while now, so heres to them on an outstanding game of RL.
P.S. later today check the Super League website they may have some highlights.
I don't think this is a bad Australian side i just think that NZ and England are getting better, to pass this Australian side off as awful is a bit harsh.
IMO the game changed ther minute McGuire came on. He was outstanding and caused the Aussies all kinds of problems. Also some great play from Thorman and Gleeson (yes Gleeson!).
I'd be very surprised if Mcguire didn't get bumped up to the GB squad.
JJ, I am not English and from listening to the game, thats was my impression, taking into account that Aussies have always said they could pick 4 or 5 teams and thrash anyone, but against Eng A it was 5 trys a piece and Eng went within a whisker of scoring at the death, a few of these English aren't even in regulars in SL, I watched the Academy GF and guys like Briscoe were in that game, thats a massive step up.
I would like to think clubs like Bradford could take notice of a game like this and realise there are production lines of quality players outside the shaky isles.
