Led Zepplin - Kashmir deserves much better than #140. I'd have it as their top song personally, above Stairway To Heaven

Metallica - Enter Sandman at #399 (their only entry)????? I think there's gonna be a few unhappy people at that little fact.

For the record, I agree with the list. I have 107 of those songs in my CD collection, and I quite like them all.

I've got a lot of them as well. There's a lot missing, that's all.

There's about 25 songs from the 90's there. I agree the 90's wasn't a BRILLIANT era of music, there still should be more songs there than that. What's more most of the stuff from the 90's is hip hop. There's barely a mention for any of the big bands on the 90's. This is coming from someone who doesn't like 90's music all that much.

It's impossible to make a list like that that all would agree with. But they are correct in weighting the 60s and 70s heavily while giving the 80s and 90s short shrift.

Was there a single East Coast hip-hop track in that list from 1990 onwards? That's a very large chunk of often acclaimed and extremely popular music to ignore.

I have no complaints about the list. There is always going to be some debate about a list like that. At least they didn't have eminem at #1 like Triple M did in their 'Top 1000 Rock songs of all time list' a couple of years ago.

It's not so much that they weren't recognised, but to have one of Metallica's WORST songs in the list is shocking.

I have come to expect geniused lists from the 'gurus' at Rolling Stone. I have not been surprised.

My two favorite Metallica songs are The Unforgiven and Unforgiven II - I'm disappointed that neither of them made the list.

That song had a guitar riff as the intro, it qualifies!

I think the list is fine, and the placing of Dylan above that great over-rated piece of crap, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the coup de gras.

I probably have 80% or more of those songs.

The songs have to have musical, commecial and historical significance amongst a wide range of people, and the list reflects that.

Just because your favourite songs may not be on there, there's no reason to be cheesed off. Plenty of the bands I like are too obscure to get there, and i don't have a problem with it.

I own and love probably 80-90% of those songs so I don't have many *real* complaints but...
