Wests has recovered from an 18-6 deficit after 20 minutes to beat Auburn 38-18 in RMC.

In the Sydney Shield Wests SS, fielding 9 players from the Tigers NYC squad beat Auburn, with 4 players from the Bulldogs NYC squad by 46-6.

Over on the north shore Belrose took on an experiencedEast Campbelltown lineup. Neither side had played a trial and after a 16-16 deadlock at half time, East Campbelltown held out for 8 consecutive sets before conceding the lead and then struck back quickly. Belrose captain coach James Mortimer slotted a field goal in the 76th minute and then a try on full time stretched the margin to 29-22.

Geez Rightleftin don't know how you do it, seemingly at every game.

But here is one for you, talking to a person in the know at Hills, apparently 20 year old Scott Hogan has pulled the pin on Hills and league to peruse an external career that I'm led to believe might involve the odd future game of union. Don't know if there is more to it or not.

Reckon Hills might do it tough this year, without his X factor, had a look over the records from last year and this young bloke played 15 games (12 wins, 2 loses, 1 draw) last year (including the Grand Final) and scored 22 tries - he missed 9 games (3 wins, 6 losses) from suspension and injury.

Last year I always believed Hills had a soft underbelly around defense and he pulled a few games out of the jaws of defeat by some freakish tries.

Don't know if there is a replacement, maybe McCallum.

That Windsor team yesterday was an ordinary commodity (although I have a high opinion of f**kas as a footballer) so it could be a long season for the Bulls.

Wests showed some brilliance today. Add in Mullaney to that RMC squad and they'll be right up there.

Does that mean you'll follow Hogan to union, Magpie? You've always seemed to followed him more than the team, or the competition, itself.

If it is played at a local ground near me, I might pop down.

What not allowed to talk about players individually, if memory serve me right I would suggest you mention a few players as well.

Think I've mentioned 5 or 6 players over the last few post, is there anything I've posted that is off the mark.

It is too hot for me. I didn't go to any games this weekend. I listened to 2 games on the radio and followed other scores on the internet where several clubs run twitter updates.

I think McCallum may have been fullback for the Australian schoolboys but Hills are going to have to do better. I thought Windsor was a certain 2 points.

The Hills Sydney Shield are looking much better than a few weeks ago with Moses Manu - NSW Cup/RMC for Wenty last year, Brad Horder - played all the trials in RMC and Sione Tonga - full season in Windsor RMC last year.

I understand that long time Windsor president Dick Prior is now associated with Hills. He may deliver a few more players over the next few months.

Wasn't there mention that Brad (??) Prior was going to coach Hills?

Yeah, Hills S/S side did great to win (didn't see the game) from the trial against Blacktown (which I did see) but the scoreline 46-26 odd was a concern it was NYC touch football.

You are right that was posted some time back but it has not transpired, however, Brad who coached Windsor for a few years now, is Dick's son so it appears that the insertion of Brent Kite as coach may not have been universally supported at Windsor. The team manager has moved to Mounties, resulting in a decimation of the Wolves twitter operations, together with the head trainer.

I heard he is joining the Army/Navy. Didn't see the game on the weekend but McCallum should be a very handy player at RMC level . I was told Hutch Maiava played for Hills SS on the weekend??
Asquith losing to Guildford surprised me, didn't notice too many names from the Guildford team did see they signed former Parra and Super League player Mat Ryan. Asquith team that was named seemed pretty strong

Wenty RMC team they named was one of the strongest teams I have seen in a while. Showed on the scoreboard

Spot on, that is what I was told - hence, the union comment.

Really thought him and McCallum would have been a deadly combination in attack - anyway, not to be the case.

Watched the game on Saturday, McCallum played well - but it was a bit of really hot than drifted out of the play.

Blacktown was a surprise, hard to judge the strength of St Marys but given how Blacktown had lost a shiltload of players since the start of the trials (as someone posted) it seems a good win.

Western Suburbs Magpies vs Auburn Warriors
#SydneyShield
Last year’s Sydney Shield wooden spooners looked anything but, as Wests demolished Auburn 46-6 at Campbelltown.
The Magpies looked dangerous from the get go and were on the board inside three minutes after Auburn knocked down a certain try scoring opportunity, Jai Doolan the beneficiary as Wests took advantage of an enormous overlap on the right flank for a 4-0 lead.
Wests were in again inside ten minutes, James Mirceski breaking through some feeble Auburn defence before offloading for Paul Roberts who finished off the final 40 metres of the trip before Roman Ieolu backed up off anther Mirceski break, Ioelu converting both tries from bang in front.
Wests posted their fourth try at the 24 minute mark, a Daniel Roberts grubber bouncing fortuitously into the arms of Kurt Atkinson who duly fell over the line, Roman Ieolu converting for a 22-0 lead which Wests took to the break.
Wests began where they left off in the first half, a long looping ball finding Jai Doolan in plenty of space, Doolan showing great strength to avoid being bundled into touch before grounding for his second try and a 26-0 lead after three minutes of the second stanza before Auburn registered their first try three minutes later, some soft defence allowing Lima Teaupa to touch down to reduce the deficit to 20.
Despite notching their opening try, Auburn looked disinterested, and their apathy cost them dearly, Blake Cavallaro’s grubber in goal rebounding and holding up just long enough for Kurt Atkinson to get through for his second try, the margin back out to 26.
Wests were finding plenty of space on the wings, Niall Walker finally seeing some football after Wests tired of going right, the left winger going over untouched before Roman Ioelu helped himself to his second on the same side off a delightful short ball from Godfred Agyemang.
With a man in the bin for dissent, Auburn dropped right off, and Niall Walker took full advantage by scooping up a loose ball and going 80 metres to touch down for his second, Roman Ioelu making the final margin a healthy 40 points.
WESTERN SUBURBS 46 (Jai Doolan 2, Kurt Atkinson 2, Roman Ioelu 2, Niall Walker 2, Paul Roberts tries; Roman Ioelu 5 from 9) defeated AUBURN 6 (Lima Teaupa try; Tom Harvey 1 from 1)
#RonMasseyCup
A four try blitz in seventeen minutes to begin the second half was underlined by an incredible four try brace for Jayden Wheelhouse as Western Suburbs toppled Auburn 38-18.
Returning after a season in England, Magpies rake Dayne Craig was first to touch down after some neat passing found Auburn unable to match the speed of Wests’ play, Shannon Gallant adding the extras after six minutes.
Auburn struck back after 14 minutes, a Wests attacking raid breaking down with the loose ball travelling 90 metres the other way after Ben Dakuwaqa picked up the scraps, Addison Demetriou tying it up from in front.
Auburn hit the lead nine minutes later as Wests were caught short in the middle on the last, Will Solway powering his way over from close range for a 12-6 advantage.
Auburn added to their lead after 25 minutes, taking advantage of a 12 man Wests lineup which had Tala Mapesone in the bin for a professional foul, Ben Dakuwaqa grabbing his second on the left flank as the Magpies failed to number up.
Despite being a man short, Wests found some sloppy Auburn marker defence napping, Brendan Waters scoring in his first appearance back in Western Suburbs colours before Jayden Wheelhouse took a great offload from Inno Inosesio to touch down, Wests back to within two points at halftime.
Wests opened the second half scoring, an incredible floating ball from Tom Grealy dropping on to the chest of David Harris, who somehow had nothing but daylight in front of him. From the restart, Wests then headed downfield at pace, Jayden Wheelhouse grabbing his second at the end of a perfect set by the home side.
Wests must have heard one hell of a speech from coach Nathan Waters, as they were proving unstoppable. A short ball putting Jay Bonnell over adjacent to the uprights before Jayden Wheelhouse was put away on the left side for a hat trick.
Wests were finding space with ease, and another left side venture brought more joy for the home side, Jayden Wheelhouse spinning around in a tackle to claim his fourth of the day and a 20 point victory for the Magpies.
WESTERN SUBURBS 38 (Jayden Wheelhouse 4, Dayne Craig, Brendan Waters, David Harris, Jay Bonnell tries; Shannon Gallant 3 from 8) defeated AUBURN 18 (Ben Dakuwaqa 2, Will Solway tries; Addison Demetriou 3 from 3)

It was a massive win for Blacktown. They had 15 players unavailable.

SS Wrap Round 1 from NSWRL

Mounties surprised defending Sydney Shield Premiers Wentworthville Magpies with a thumping 36-10 win in the Sydney Shield match of the round at Ringrose Park yesterday.

In an opening round that saw heatwave conditions and an incredible 77 tries scored in the seven matches played, it was the performance of “the Mulga” against their arch-rivals that was the main talking point of the round.

Mounties stunned Wenty with a near-perfect first half in the 30-plus-degree conditions – scoring four converted tries to take a commanding 24-nil lead to the half-time break.

Despite Alex Chan’s defending Premiers mounting a comeback of sorts in the second half, Mounties, led by classy half Brad Speechley, were always in control and ran out comfortable six-tries-to-two winners.

Hills District Bulls coped best with the heatwave at Windsor Sports Complex on Saturday to trounce the Wolves 44-26 in one of many tryfests over the weekend.

With prodigal son Brad Horder pulling the strings at half in his comeback game for the Bulls after a departure from Asquith, Hills District scored nine tries to five to get their season off to a winning start.

Down the road a few hours later on Saturday, Sydney Shield newcomers St Marys posted an historic debut victory when they outscored local rivals Blacktown Workers 46-30.

With prop Joe Vaegaau and second-rower Phil Salevao bagging two tries each, the home side scored nine tries for their first up win.

Guildford Owls scored an easy 48-14 victory over a young Asquith outfit in their match at McCredie Park on Saturday in another contest where the hot conditions saw plenty of points and tries scored.

Nineteen-year-old winger James Gammidge and five-eighth Dean Matterson scored two tries each as the Owls' backline put their Asquith opponents to the sword in the sweltering conditions with a nine-tries-to-three win.

The Western Suburbs Magpies were the other impressive winners alongside Mounties in Round 1 – thrashing the Auburn Warriors 46-6 at Campbelltown yesterday.

George Kulen’s young charges were untroubled and led all day to score an easy eight-try win over the outclassed Warriors – with their exciting backline leading the way.

Fullback Roman Loelu, wingers Niall Walker and Jai Doolan, along with second-rower Kurt Atkinson all scored doubles to place Wests on top of the Shield table after Round 1 on percentages.

The Peninsula Seagulls scored a thrilling 28-22 win over Cabramatta at Forestville Oval on Saturday to give former dual code and dual international star Craig Gower a winning debut as a senior coach alongside former NRL journeyman Scott Pethybridge.

With fullback Jake Pickering a standout, the Seagulls led 16-4 at half-time and then 22-4 against the run of play with the custodian’s brilliant 80-metre solo try.

The Two Blues – led by halfback Grayson Goodwin and determined to start afresh after a well-documented horror 2015 – then stormed back into the game to level up at 22-all with 5 minutes left.

The Seagulls then regained the lead when centre Barry McGrady finished a cross-field kick movement with 60 seconds remaining to score the winning try. The Seagulls held on for one last tackle with their 12 men to secure a five-tries-to-four victory.

Finally, on Sunday at Lionel Watts Reserve, Belrose posted a 29-22 win over East Campbelltown in an all Eagles ‘battle of the birds’ that also went down “to the wire”.

A brilliant Christian Bate try set up by Belrose captain/coach James Mortimer gave Belrose a 16-6 lead before two East Campbelltown tries levelled the scores at 16-all at half-time.

East Campbelltown then gallantly held on for no less than 10 successive sets in defence inside their own 20-metre area for the first 20 minutes of the second half before finally cracking to give Belrose the lead at 22-16.

A superb try to winger Craig Moustakas saw the visitors level the scores at 22-all against the run of paly with 11 minutes left, before a Mortimer field goal and a second try to powerful centre Andrew Halstead right on full-time sealed the win for the home side.

RMC Cup Wrap Round 1

A first-half attacking blitz led the Wentworthville Magpies to an outstanding 38-14 win over defending Premiers Mounties in the Ron Massey Cup ‘match of the round’ at Ringrose Park last Sunday.

With NRL recruits Yileen 'Buddy' Gordon and Adrian Ha’angana leading the way, the Magpies won the match with five first-half tries to take a stunning 28-4 lead at the break, before coasting home to a seven-tries-to-three win.

The loss by Mounties was part of a remarkable round on the opening weekend of the season where both 2015 Ron Massey Cup Grand Finalists were beaten, and a number of comebacks across the weekend produced victories.

The opening round also saw the mercury soar into the low 30s across the weekend, testing the early-season fitness of players in the sweltering conditions.

Four tries to centre Jayden Wheelhouse led the Western Suburbs Magpies to a 38-18 win over Auburn Warriors at Campbelltown Stadium yesterday.

After the Warriors led 18-16 at half time, the class of fullback Shannon Gallant and former Wentworthville half Brendan Waters - on debut for his new club - gave the home side the upper hand in the second half.

In the main match on Saturday, Blacktown Workers came from behind at half-time to topple Ron Massey Cup newcomers St Marys 28-14 in the local derby at St Marys Stadium.

The Brad Drew-coached home side started well and led 10-4 after a tight first half with star recruit Geoff Daniela bagging a first-half try in a strong display.

However, St Marys’ hopes of a dream return to top-flight grass-roots footy were dashed by a powerful Blacktown display in the second half, with winger Wes Taaga scoring a double in the visitors’ five-tries-to-three win.

The Windsor Wolves came from the dead to run down Hills District Bulls 28-24 at Windsor Sports Complex in the most exciting game of the opening round on Saturday.

The Bulls were on target to make their Ron Massey Cup a winning one when they led 14-10 at half-time, and 24-10 10 minutes into the second half.

However, the Wolves, with class five-eighth Aaron f**kas leading the revivial, stormed home with three converted tries in the next 20 minutes to take a stunning 28-24 lead with 10 minutes to play.

The Wolves then hung on in the face of late Bulls attacks in the closing stages to secure their win.

Paul Fletcher began coaching life post-Wests Tigers on a winning note when his Guildford Owls charges were too good for 2015 Grand Finalists Asquith 30-16 at McCredie Park on Saturday.

The Magpies started well and led 10-8 at the half-time break after a tight opening 40 minutes in the hot conditions.

Guildford then scored four second-half tries to gain the upper hand and come away with a solid six-tries-to-three win.

Finally, Cabramatta were far too strong for the hapless Kingsgrove Colts with a 58-6 thrashing at Kogarah Jubilee Oval on Saturday.

Looking to make amends under new coach Eddie Flahey for missing the finals in 2015, the Two Blues had the match won against the outclassed Colts by half-time.

Cabramatta scored six converted first half tries to lead 36-6 at the break, and went on the with job in the second half to post 10 tries.

Concord-Burwood avoided the weekend heat with their first-round bye. They play their first match of the season in Round 2 this weekend.

The top game in the RMC is likely to be at Ringrose Park on Sunday as Wenty, strong winners over premiers Mounties in round 1 take on Cabramatta who had a satisfactory training run with 11 tries.

The interesting game in the Sydney Shield will be at McCredie Park on Saturday when Guildford with 9 Parramatta NYC squad members take on Wests Magpies with 9 Wests Tigers NYC squad members.

Concord Burwood Wolves play their first game in RMC. The side looks weaker than last year and the club has been struggling to secure sponsors. Willie Mason's brother Rod is in the Wolves line up, as is Marvin Slavin, who played SS for Belrose last weekend.
