Very true. The winners in the first season (1963) were Kingsford (aka Souths Juniors) yet in 1965 they left the comp and were replaced by Horsnby. The two clubs that remain 54 years later are Wenty and Guildford but of course Penrith and Cronulla Sutherland have gone on to much greener pastures.

I can tell you that Penrith were blue and white and Cronulla were brown and yellow but I have no idea what Kingsford wore.

My dad played second division for Sydney University and his recollection was Kingsfords jersey consisted of thin horizontal hoops of red green and black. But we're talking 50 plus years ago! Memories might be a little clouded!

A glance at the Wests Tigers website could explain why the Magpies have been slow to recruit for RMC. There are 34 in the NRL squad and 17 in the NSW Cup squad, which means that theoretically, subject to injuries and suspensions, the entire NSW Cup squad could be selected in RMC. Clearly, that will never happen, with Magpies like Brendan Waters and David Harris being automatic selections.

6 Blacktown players got on for Manly in the second half of their 22-16 win over Souths in the NRL trial. All earlier games were cancelled.

Caught the Cabra game in Canberra ,Cabras best side led 24-4 just before half time before a poorly placed kick resulted in Canberra going the length to be 24-10 at the break , Brett Whites Canberra boys were trying real hard in the heat and after Cabra made some replacements the Canberra boys showed superior fitness to claw back to 30-30 at the end in a hot but entertaining game. Overheard the Cabra coach and head trainer say they were happy with the performance of there top players.

Rumour is that Asquith have recruited Jake Pickering and Vinny Ngaro, both winners of the SS player of the year award in recent seasons.

Blacktown are demonstrating their strength this weekend. Earlier today they beat Wyong 40-16 in the NSW Cup trial and have named a strong side for RMC vs Guildford tomorrow. In addition the SS are playing 2 trials, firstly one side is playing Hills at 10am and then a second team will play Guildford at 2pm.

St Marys beat Wenty in both grades today, by 6 tries to 4 in RMC and by 4 tries to 2 in SS.

Concord Burwood are playing Hills tomorrow at 11.30 but the Wests website indicates that they were playing Concord Burwood today - anyone know if true and if so, the score?
