I disagree Ron - music videos have played a huge role in the steady degeneration of the quality of popular music today.

I disagree, maybe today yes!

Oh and hevy, blame punk for the decline in quality of music as well as rap, not the video, clips can help sell bands in such a competitive market.

i hate you syd!!! your my bro, you know that poison clip is f**king awesome!!

Poison is a good song Ron and yes the clip is good also. I still think that Alice is average, you should check out some of his mid 80's albums, they reek. Even the theme song he did for a friday the 13th movie " He's back, the man behind the mask" very cringeworthy. Given the fact he was prolly off his chops theoughout that phase, still doesnt excuse it being recorded and sold.

Alice whinges about other artists more than he ever talks about his own music.

It isnt all bad though Ron, he should be credited for being the original shock rock entertainer on stage and was a forerunner in this very area which to this day has been emulated and copied.

Doesnt change the fact I think he is average though :p ;-)

seriously dude

Tool crap on them from a very great height

and have good clips to boot

I love both but I can't go past Opeth.

Tool are weakened by an ordinary guitarist despite the fact that Danny is one of THE great drummers.

I disagree.

They do have more interesting clips - I'll give them that.

But musically, it's no comparison.

I think your missing my point? IMO todays clips are too over produced and lack any real attraction for the viewer, they're dull, computerized and if anything over produced. Give me a 'Still of the Night' or 'Here I go again' music clip over anything today, that sh*ts all over modern clips.

A great but effective clip is 'cum on feel the noize' by QR that clip is simple yet probably more powerful then anything i've seen in the last ten years.

But what constitutes a "good" clip to you? Does it have to be entertaining? Artistic? Nothing to do with the song?

One of my favourite all time clips is Michael Jackson's "Thriller" - come on! Who can seriosuly say they don't love him singing and dancing to his sweetheart, and then singing and dancing to her as a zombie with a backing group of zombies? It's brilliant, simple and entertaining in my opinion.

I agree with thriller, it was pure original.

Anything that is powerful yet simple is what i like, clips today are just so over produced and lack originality.

A cliplove, because it's so simple but yet so funny, is Lamb Of God's "Redneck" - it starts off with two parents organising a kid's party and looking to hire entertainment. They bring out the Yellow Pages, see Lamb Of God's name, see it as sensible to ring them up - and when the bus pulls up and half a dozen heavily tattooed, long-haired young men step out and start playing some metal, they freak out.
