Should Andrew Johns regain the captaincy once fit?

I'd prefer it if he stepped down from rep football myself, but I doubt it'll happen. He'll injure himself in Origin 2, and miss the rest of the season.

Not only his ego, but it is probably in his HUGE contract that he is captain.

Personally I think Locky deserves to retain the job. He has led Australia to two series wins in the UK and has captained Australia more then Johns. Its not like Johns was a long time captain and should automatically get it back.

I'm not fussed either way. As long as Johns and Lockyer are both in the team I'll be happy. Both are worthy contenders for the captaincy - but it really is just a title.

Joey was the incumbent Captain before his injury and so he should be again.

I like to take my hat off to all of you guys who said lockyer should be. I'm really a fan of neither but I think Lockyer has earned the right to be called captain over the last couple of years. While Johns is the best player and a previous captain I think Lockyer would be a good pick for the long run, sort of like how they pick the captain in the Cricket. They get the young but experienced guy in, e.g Ponting and Steve Waugh to an extent. Johns may only be around for another season so giving him captaincy would only take away time from Lockyer.

If you understood what went down with him and the ARL, you'd also understand that it was part of John's agreement that if he stayed with league he'd remain Australian captain. This is the reason for John's silence. He knows, injury permitting, he'll be captain. We'll see if i'm wrong.

There is no aspect of Lockyers game where John's is clearly superior. Lockyer is a cleaner player and is less egotistical. He is younger and is not an injury prone crock. His record as Australian captain far exceeds John's. The Australian captaincy should not be part of the John's deal for staying with league. If it is it would be a complete scandal and make a complete joke of the NRL.
John's should retire from rep football. He was a great player but is a bit of a liability now.

Lets not turn this into a Lockyer vs Johns whos the better player. I really believe that Lockyer deserves the job and is more of a long term. In saying that Johns will be captain for the reasons that Red and Blue Knight said.

I think Johns deserves it back. If the ARL thought that Locky was a better option, they should have given it to him first time. Personally, I think Locky is the better captain, but the ARL made their decision two years ago. They had Lockyer, Johns and Tallis to choose between and they chose Johns. If they had chosen Lockyer then, this wouldn't be a problem now.
