I got this idea from the Bronco's thread, but I've decided to base it on 1980 to now, as we have had such a long history. If you have any players i should post up under a positon, or if any posted players can play in other positions other than the ones currently assigned, then please post in this thread. I'm only a young fan, but doing this might help give me an idea of some of the great players we've had since 1980.

2. & 5. Winger

What were the positions of David Trewhella, Ron Giteau, Terry Regan, Des O'Reilly, Rocky Laurie, Tony Melrose, Tony Iro, Dean Rampling, Scott Gourley & John Tobin?

My Roosters allstar team
1. Luke Phillips (The guy was just so brave he knew he would get smashed and he kept running hard regardless.)
2 & 5 Mullins and Minichiello (Mullins because he virtually won the 2002 premiership for us IMO with his try V Brisbane the week before. and Minichiello because I gave the fullback spot to Phillips.)
3 & 4 Ryan Cross and Im undecided on the 2nd centre.
6 Brad Fittler no surprises there.
7 Sam Obst (just Kidding) Craig Wing only because I never rated Lam. Finch
8 and 10 Cusack because he wasnt flashy or anything but because he got the job done (I still miss him) and Cayless.

9 Bonetti another honest toiler. got this just in front of Wing

11 and 12 Fitzgibbon and Fletcher.

13. Luke Ricketson.

Can we possibly limit this to players who have played more than one season please?

Brett Mullins a Rooster?

or Quentin Pongia?

Raiders fans will give you oner HELL of an argument about THAT one, I'd say

David Kidwell??? are you kidding?

Can you people please use your brains here!!!

Good Lord! How about players who've given their heart and soul for the tricolours, not players waiting to retire and looking to have one last season

Still also looking for clarifications on if any of the players already mentioned can play anywhere else...or the positions of Ron Giteau, Terry Regan, Des O'Reilly, Rocky Laurie, Tony Melrose, Dean Rampling, Scott Gourley & John Tobin?

I've deleted Mullins, Pongia & Kidwell btw. You are right about that. Sorry if i got a little carried away.

Russell Fairfax is a stretch too. Did he play in the 80's ??? I'd be surprised if he did. He broke his leg in '75 in the Amco Cup against Auckland and lost his guts after that and ended up at Souths and I think he retired in 1979 (more or less)

Why isn't Ian Schubert nominated either at fullback. He played longer at the Roosters than Fairfax.

Dean Rampling? gimme a break!

Tony Iro ? Puleaseeeeeee!

alright mate i'm sorry. i'm only 15 years old, & i'm trying to educate myself on our best players from the last 25 years. how about you post up what you believe your team is, & if you have any problems, just relax and say "this guy doesn't deseve the spot". Btw, when did Ian Schuberts career span? I will remove Fairfax & add Schubert, and according to you, Rampling & Iro both should be removed to. don't forget mate, this is the BEST team, not "who was the most loyal".

It's also personal opinion LFNU and your entitled to have yours. as you say, its all stars, not most loyal or only those that played more than one season. good on ya for learning about our recent history.

I second that! :)

Good on you for delving into the Roosters history mate, as well but I'm entitled to my opinion as well arent I?

I'm not talking about loyalty. Money pays for that quite nicely these days, doesnt it?

I'm talking about not including player who used the Roosters as "something to do before retiring" (Bob O'Reilly, Brett Mullins etc)

These guys ARENT Roosters

Would you call Brett Mullins a "Rooster" after one season with us and all his years with Canberra?

I'm talking about players like Ricko and Horry Hastings who bled red white and blue

Surely thats not too much to ask, is it?

It's a cool thread LeagueFanNumeroUno but you've gotta expect people to react to this sort of thing and just about everyone will have opinions differing to yours when it comes to who's better than who

It warms my heart to see young kids following the game I grew up with and still love :D

I'm glad you're not a fan of the "GAY EFF ELLE"

You are entitled to your opinion and i respect that...you just didn't have to be so angry about it...it seemed like you were really ticked off at me, when i just named the first players to come to my head.

Don't worry lad ;-)

I'm not ticked off at anyone :D

I'm actually thrilled that you, at the age of 15 can remember so many names from the past. I'm more ticked off at the Roosters for latching onto so many "one season wonders" which gave us the reputation of the "league's departure lounge" as many league writers once called us and this went on for years, sadly

I'm glad you didn't mention Brett Papworth either. What a debarcle that was!

Good thread lad and if you can think of anymore, put 'em in ok?

I'll do the same :)

Here's a few names you may have forgotten from the last 20 years or so:

Mike Eden; Gary Freeman; Johnny Lang (yes, the coach); Jeff Masterman; Nigel Gaffey; Brad Tessman; Paul Green (one game and that was about it, I think); Marty Gurr

FULLBACK

Anthony Minichiello; Luke Phillips (I can't split these two)

WING

John Ferguson; Matt Sing

CENTRE

Joe Lydon (even though he's a pommie) Shannon Hegarty

FIVE EIGHTH

Freddy [captain]

HALFBACK

Horry Hastings

LOCK

It's hard to go past Ricko for this one but John Tobin busted a gut for us every game in the 80's and would be an asset for any team

SECOND ROW

Craig Salvatori; Bryan Fletcher, Trevor Gillmeister (hard to split)

PROP

Royce Aylliffe (vice capt) ; Peter Cusack; Jason Lowrie (hard to split)

HOOKER

Simon Bonetti

BENCH

Craig Wing; Andrew Walker; Terry Hermannson; Chris Fannery

Howzat grab ya? :)

Paul Green and Gary Freeman were halfbacks...but what about:

Mike Eden; John Lang; Jeff Masterman; Nigel Gaffey; Brad Tessman; Marty Gurr

Where'd they play? And yes your team looks brilliant, just lacks a mongrel like Mozza Morley or Rambo Gibbs, but i still like it alot! Flannery is getting alot of votes...what a brilliant player he is turning out to be. I just watched a replay of our match against Parra last year, where we won the Minor Premiership 2004. Crocker played out of his skin that game, one of the best performances i've ever seen by a backrower.

Mike Eden was a 5/8
JOhn Lang hooker
Jeff Masterman hooker
Nigel Gaffey lock mostly.
Brad Tessman front rower (Although he thought he was a centre)
Marty Gurr fulback

That's what I was gunna say

Cusack & Lowrie had enough "mongrel" for my way of liking and rarely ended up on report or were sent off like Mozza and Rambo. I'm a beleiver in keeping your 13 on the park for the full 80

I wouldnt trade Flannery for anyone and I was stoked that he re-signed for the next few years

All of my bench can be slotted in anywhere (more or less) I think and Walker can kick

[I just realised my all time side doesnt have a goal kicker  ]

Mike Eden & Gary Freeman both won "player of the year" awards in the 80's in seperate years

I'd probably go for the 'full-strength' line-up:

1. Luke Phillips (GK) (PK3)
2. Anthony Minichiello
3. Noel 'Crusher' Cleal
4. Shannon Hegarty
5. Kerry Boustead
6. Brad 'Freddie' Fittler (PK2)
7. Kevin 'Horror' Hastings (PK1)
8. Ron 'Rambo' Gibbs
9. Simon Bonetti
10. Royce Ayliffe
11. Bryan Fletcher
12. Craig Salvatori
13. Hugh McGahan/Luke Ricketson/John Tobin

14. Jason Lowrie
15. Adrian Morley
16. Craig Wing (PK4)
17. Trevor Gillmeister
