Give us our junior base back and we will. In the interim we'll attract the best prospective talent even from under your state monopolising noses, and make them first graders and reps.

See thats what I don't get, I didn't mention juniors at all, but because you guys have a small junior base you see it as an excuse to buy developed players. Look at the Roosters lower grades over the last 3 years, they have been great, but rather than promote them, "narh we'll sign established players instead" It's the quick fix option over the long term solution.

Right now with regards to the roosters signing youngsters from other areas, I'm all for it, develop them, bring them through the ranks. Then try something new and f**king use them. The odd one or two here and there then released means squat.

In case you were wondering, offloading $1m in talent in order to sign Harrison and Anasta means offloading the $1m to keep all the players we reasonably can and then sign those two players as well.

Managing player contracts is more complicated than just saying ok 7 gone for 2 in. It's more like 7 gone, 3 or 4 stay, 2 more in

Offloading 7 to sign 2 means offloading 7 to sign 2.

Otherwise it would have been we offloaded 3 to keep 4 and offloaded another 4 to sign 2.

What am not fine with, or see no logic in, is developing these players, and barely using them in favour of signing the likes of Anasta, Monaghan, Roberts, Firman, Finch, Harrison ect.

That's because you're thinking short term. Anasta may well have taken less money from the Roosters than what Souths were offering, but you also have to remember that he is only 23 and possibly has ten years left in the game. If he goes to to strong club such as the Roosters, it's conceivable that in ten years time his career may have continued to spiral, meaning maximum dollars the whole time. But if he'd gone to Souths, a struggling team with an uncertain future, it's equally conceivable that his career, as well as his earning potential, may well have nosedived.

So just because he'll be earning less money with the Roosters for the next three years, than what he could have earned at Souths, in the long term he'll have made more money and, along the way, enjoyed the spoils of success, such as rep football, etc.

It's a no-brainer.

You're exactly right. If if if. Which is precisely why Braith Anasta signed with the Roosters for less money -- there are less "ifs" to the equation. He can't pretend to know the future. He can only make educated guesses and proceed from there.

So we've barely used Minichiello? Barely used Crocker? Barely used Fletcher? Barely used Flannery? Barely used Byrne? Didn't we develop those players? Didn't the 2002 grand final team contain 11 players who came through the Roosters lower grades?

I think the main problem that people see is that the roosters team is filled with rep players....yes they let some go, but replace them with quality rep players!

Don't the Broncos use the same argument every year to explain how they manage to stay under the salary cap? How many years have we been hearing, "Players are willing to play for us for less money."

I don't hear any bleating about that.

Why is it so difficult to believe that they might do the same thing at the Roosters? They've been in the last three grand finals. They're dripping money and their long term future is secure. They have the current State coach as head coach. They are professional and well run.

Why wouldn't you want to play for them?

Even so, lets say without debate, it was 11, ain't it a shame that didn't continue, because it's been a gradual downhill slip for the Roosters since then to match the dwindling numbers of developed players in the Roosters top 17. The one year they had a large number of their own talent in the team and the win their first title in 25 years, yet here we are, Roosters not as good and trying to buy their way out of the slump.
