Assault can be intentional or reckless. It has to be more than just negligent or accidental though. Taking a swing at one person when another was in range probably counts as reckless rather than accidental.

Had a case like a few months ago. Bloke was trying to mow down a fella in his car, missed him and wedged his wife between his car and a tree. Guess what? intent to cause GBH.
