What international exposure does AFL give a sponsor? Just how much exposure does it even give in NSW and QLD?
As for how the AFL & NRL are going in their non-traditional states, I posted this in the thread about the Storm's 14K crowd...
In NSW & QLD Aust rules is hardly an unknown game. All the new AFL clubs will offer is a local team, not a new and previously unknown sport.
In comparison, you don't have to go far to find in Victoria or in the other AFL states someone who has no idea of RL.
So which code has the greater scope for attracting new fans and markets - the NRL or AFL?
True the AFL can't give the international exposure, but they can give the national and they are positioning themselves to be this. They already call themselves the national football game. We know this isn't true. But the thousands who follow the game that is perceived as being the "in" game don't care.
AFL are doing very well in there non traditional areas as opposed to us, the Swans can get 50,000 to a home and away game at the Olympic stadium. Not bad. They are also getting more for TV rights and attracting big sponsors have massive memebership numbers and are doing very well.
The perception of their game is very positive.
Ours is very negative which stiffles the growth. and doesn't attract new people.
I am saying there is an agenda by the media to keep us in our place just as they use to focus on the thuggery and violence they now focus on player behaviour. They also don't give us a chance internationally always mocking our game, look at the way they death rode the WC even before it started. They didn't give it a chance. Now why would they do it?
We need strong leadership and a plan to grow this game, at the moment all we have is a damaged image.
