I was quite happy with yesterdays win, then again who wouldn't after the first round. Always important to get off to a good start.

Norman played like he left off in 2016. Kicking game was good. Ok some decision making weren't great but kept us in good field position when it was needed.

Gutho showed he wants to be the permanent, I was quite impressed with his performance.

Also the forward pack showed a bit of muscle up front, guys like Mannah, Matagi and Brown. Alvaro and O'Brien did alright just need to hit the line a bit harder.

Overall it was a good performance and looking forward to the next game.

I think it was Mannah best game for us in some time. They picked on Nathan Brown for the passing at the line but I think that worked well as it had the defence in two minds when he ran.

Still need to see more from Gutherson. Also French as a playmaker.

You gotta love watching French play footy don't you. He just looks like he is having the time of his life.

Clinton Gutherson is a strong, independent five-eighth who don't need no haircut.

Hey Forty - I am interested in your thoughts on our attack yesterday. Reading your fantastic reports over summer, it seemed the squad spent an enormous amount of time (Starting in November) on our attacking structure, shape, running correct lines, set plays etc. We didn't see much of that at all.

I know we are talking round one here - but just curious on whether we kept a lot of plays in our kit bag yesterday.

Manly were pretty in our face defensively so probably we went a bit safe in attack

I don't think we pushed the envelope in general yesterday. We showed at the Nines how lethal our forwards can be with short interchanges of passes (the sensational Corey Norman try comes to mind) but given the conditions and the nature of it being the opening round we dialled things back to a completion-orientated grind.

Based on what I saw over summer I am confident the expansive plays will come.

Norman is obviously the play-making heart of the team but I think French will also come into his own here. Our ability to have 2/1 or 3/0 left and right stacked play-making options will test most teams, especially if our opponents start selling out to pressure Norman. Nathan Brown will also be a factor here in more ideal conditions. It showed up to an extent yesterday but he can weave some deftness in between his usual turbo-merkin angry-face game.

So long answer short...yes I think we still have plenty of plays left in the kit bag. As the team finds its rhythm proper over the next month I think we will start reaching in to said bag for a few of them.

I'd like to hear Forty's thoughts about Gutherson's hair.

Revolutionary if truth be told. The workings of a modern day visionary. It rivals the holy grail of all haircuts in the Mullet, although it only really caters to a niche of the population in elite athletes. 'Elite athletes?' I hear you mutter incredulously. Yes, elite athletes. Just as the mullet caters to the every-man with its brilliant dual-purpose design of business at the front and a party at the back, the Gullwing elevates the sporting superstar on two fronts.

Firstly it allows you to run faster. You think the shaved down hair on the sides is a coincidence? Not a f**king chance. The removal of hair from the lateral quadrants of the skull allows for decreased friction with the air due to improved aerodynamics. Fortunately ASADA can't rule on style-based performance enhancing methods. This one is here to stay, folks.

Secondly, and more importantly, is the devastating psychological damage it can impart on to your opposition. Due to the sheer speed you will be running at due to your vastly improved aerodynamics the Gullwing will begin to ascend from the scalp in majestic fashion. The hypnotic rhythm of its ebb and flow and the deceptive nature of its bob and splay will transfix your opponents before sending them into the depths of despair in the knowledge that they themselves have been outclassed by a haircut that transcends science.

Or something like that.

Thanks 40. I just thought it was a dodgy half finished haircut but you might have a point.
