Round 1 Team?

LAwrence is a better tackler at 18 than Brasher was
And for those bagging Collis .. dear me ... the bloke is utter class
We'd have scored a thousand more tries last year if the dopey winger outside was awake more than 30% of the time when Collis got miracle balls out to him and he was dozing 15m behind play

Yes, probably right, but at this stage I wouldn't risk him defending against Gasnier, cooper yes, but not Gaz. He'll step and fend him all day long.

Lawerance will play most of the year at Centre you'd think, but against the Saints, I don't think we can win with him against Gasnier. It'll be a high scoring game, that we shoud win if we're fair dinkum.

St George will finish in the bottom 5 this year. Apart from GAsnier they have nothing. Hornby, Cooper, Ryles are some of the most overrated hacks going round. Lawrence will be fine defensively

Surely they wouldn't have let Lawrence touch a football yet. It should be all defence work for him til next month.

Lawrence is defintely a better defender at the same age as Brasher. Its only his reading that is off.....he isnt a grabber like Brash was.

He is also bigger and faster than Brash too.

I rate Brash......but IMO Lawrence should be a far better player.

He is all class.

Agreed....Collis injury free and with someone running off him wil go very well this year.

There is a bit of Gidley snr about our Collis.

My only beef with Collis is that he can go to sleep during games.

Sheens has to get him more involved as the more touches this kid has the better we will go,

I rate Lawrence as good if not better than any young guns going around, I hope for your sake you wrap him up long term

I think Collis and Youngquest can make a good combo down the right. I remember seeing Younquest score a couple of tries hugging the right touchline in FNF last season, and I'm sure if Luke Lewis can set him up then Dean Collis should be more then able to create some opportunities for him to capitalise on.

Danny Galea should definitely make the bench. He has a great 1-on-1 tackling technique and would serve us well defensively on the fringes (huge weakness in '07).

I've opted for Payne and O'Hara over Harrison. I like the fact O'Hara runs straight and hard and gets quick play the balls (important for the next carry), and think that Payne gives us better defensive skills then Harrison. Morris should be our utility as he has a greater range of skills, more experience and covers more positions then any other option.

I think our team looks pretty good, with our two big unknowns being Ben Teo and Keith Galloway. These guys have the potential to be long term rep players; if they prove that this year our backs could finally get the chance to run at retreating defences, making 2008 very exciting indeed!

1. Brett Hodgson
2. Nick Younquest
3. Dean Collis
4. Chris Lawrence
5. Taniela Tuiaki

6. Benji Marshall
7. Matt Head

8. Keith Galloway
9. Robbie Farah
10. Todd Payten
11. Chris Heighington
12. Ben Teo
13. Liam Fulton

14. John Morris
15. Danny Galea
16. Corey Payne
17. Ryan O'Hara

18. Bronson Harrison

 the continual listed teams with Youngquest as a walk up starting winger. Obviously you all didn't see Fitzhenry OWN him like a prison whore at CUA this year....

I do remember seeing him streak away for an 80m effort on full time
As for missing Fitzy, plenty of the games superstars have ... it's hardly a shame to be made a fool of by a modern day Ken Irvine

Name a player in our squad who has shown they can handle playing right wing in first grade better then Youngquest.

Sure he's not the greatest player, but he is our best option for round 1 (unless Lawrence plays wing, which I hope he doesn't as he is too good to waste on the wings).

coming to think of it, I think we'd be best with Collis and Galea in the centres and having Lawrence and Tuiaki on the wings. Galea is a very good defender, and I'd feel a lot more confident with him defending against Gasnier, and then have Collis on Cooper.

Lawrence will come close to being the top try scorer in 2008 if he is on the wing.

Galea has been groomed for the forwards, I think Gasnier would embarass him with his speed and footwork.

Moving Lawrence to the wing just because he is up against Gasnier isn't the right move, not for him or the team. If he is to be our long term centre then that is where he should play every game from now. If he is to become a rep footballer he needs to take on the best and not be hidden from them.

I didn't see Bellamy hide Falou on the wing when he came up against Tahu last year.

I don't think putting Lawrence on the wing is hiding him at all. I think he will score alot of tries if he is kept on the wing. I think he could go alright in the centres but his best position would be wing.

Lawrence getting bathed ala Elf in 2006 by Gasnier is not going to do him any good. Galea is a very strong 1 on 1 defender, if we have him there then the winger doesn't have to come in and risk a freaky flick pass from Gasnier to Morris, who won't get run down.
