Fair enough. Who plays 5/8 in the mean time? What do we do with Boyd in 4/5 months time when he comes back?

Ultimately, Milford was bought by the club to be the long term 5/8. No doubt in my mind there is going to be some bog average games but all indications from far better football talent judges than me suggest he has what it takes.

Moving him to fullback now won't solve anything unless we have some masterplan to snatch DCE to play in the halves while we wait on Milford to do an apprenticeship from fullback.

I think we saw the true damage to the team that Boyd's injury caused, he was going to be a great link to help with alot of the backline movements, would have made for a smoother gelling period for Milford & Hunt. For the next few months It's all on them two to learn their trade and win games while their at it, tough gig.

Honestly I think we should have tried McCullough at 5/8th in the trials. We have a few hookers, we could have always gone back to Milford if it absolutely failed. To me that was a missed opportunity. When Boyd comes back I'd be putting him on the wing personally but I'm expecting him to be FB (as Wayne is ultra defensive). Heaven knows he is a good winger. Milford or Eden at fullback, probably Milford. I just think the whole idea was rushed. Eventually I see Milford as a 5/8, but he is nowhere near ready. People forget Lockyer (who was the greatest if all time at it) still had 5+ seasons of playing fullback and learning the basics which he could bring to 5/8. You can always learn to tackle. You need practice, practice and practice when talking about passing and kicking. Milford can learn to do this at fullback whilst his transition isn't rushed.

Ideally a DCE type but even just a solid 5/8th would be worth signing. Just someone who can play a role for 1-3 seasons while Milford develops.

Definite NO to McCullough at 5/8. You don't solve a problem by creating another one.

You don't solve the problem of one player playing in an unfamiliar position by playing another player in an unfamiliar position. McCullough is too slow anyway for that position.

Let's face it ... the only options Bennett will consider (which he won't after coming out backing Milford so strongly) are Strasser, Nichols or Nikorima, all of whom have no first grade experience so instantly put them in an even poorer category than Milford.

Bennett will hang tough with Milford who is a very gifted player, and for what he lacks in experience, he'll make up for in raw talent. As long as he's making his tackles Bennett will be happy to persist.

As others have said I'd like to see Milford playing behind a dominant pack before judging. Hunt has the goods to guide him and give him space, but the forwards need to aim up and they were just outclassed against that pack last night.

Eden at fullback, start from there. Kahu on the wing, he is solid but we need more speed at the back, Eden plays. Don't care if Eden makes an error or two, he is more likely to create. Happy to go with Milford at 5/8th for a month but if it aint working lets not kill him, put him back to fullback where he is comfortable.

Have you ever seen Eden play before, where.

I'm probably echoing what a lot of people thought, and that is the Broncos are going to have a job to make the playoffs if they play like that for too many more games.

I stand by my comments - the performance wasn't as bad as many think.

Why? If not for the dropped ball it would have been much closer.

Dropped ball 10 metres out + 30 degree heat = forward killing conditions.

The dropped ball came at critical times both in defence and attack.

Also, virtually a new team playing the team that won the Premiership less one or two players.

Oh ... and if the Broncos had a strong running right edge forward who didn't fall to the ground the moment a finger was laid on him - may have helped as well.

Somewhat agree with the above.
Handing over possession had a lot to do with going in at half time with 40/60 possession. Always going to be hard to hold out with stats like that in those conditions.. and the first game of the year.

The kickoffs out on the full were pretty ordinary, why they are still making errors like that I don't understand.

I can't see where the points are going to come from in the next 2-3 weeks, could be a while before they register a win.

I reckon McGuire and Parker were off for too long. They both normally play for 70 minutes or so each game. 2 of the hardest workers both only got 40 minutes or so.

Thank you all, useless lol....although to be fair he had company tonight!

You really are a half wit lol

Well that was one hell of a crappy game from us. Leave Milford at fullback. Agree with slotting McCullough at 5/8th. Piss Whitchuch off. Reed not much better. And Maranta by far not the worst out there last night. Also thought Blair did more than his fair share in defense.
Silly basic mistakes from us didn't help the cause but it'll take a few more games to hopefully shape a more coherent team out there.

3. McCullough
2. Glenn
1. McGuire

McTurd offers nothing in attack from dummy half.
If I was the coach, I would be telling Milford to go into dummy half every now and then and see if he can create something with his footwork and acceleration.
He has done this in the past with good results
Not ideal for his development but we're here to win footy games.

In short, I'll wait four weeks to cast my opinion. It was good to hear Wayne talk about predictability and in the same breath say the team was the same as one that's taken the park for the last couple of years. Ultimately mistakes and inability to build pressure cost us the game. It's pretty clear and evident that players will be punished for poor form so I'd expect to see some changes in the coming weeks.

3 McCullough
2 McGuire
1 Gillett

I hope you're right about the players in poor form.
but Bennett has a track record of selecting players with poor form for far too long
maranta will play next week and probably at least the next month regardless of his form.
marantas first run was painful
would never see that happen to vidot

I've been one of Maranta's biggest critics, but he played reasonably well on Thursday night.

It is likely that Gavet will be suspended. The rumour is that Bennett told Joe O. he wouldn't play first grade this year. Garbett is probably our only other option at the moment. Or am I missing something.
