So Shaq a couple of weeks away, Liva round 14 and Keaon not far after that.

The club is honouring AJ tomrrow for his 200th game last week there is a big banner made for AJ and face masks will be handed out.

JD said we don’t have too many more games left at Accor and he’s spoken to the boys on keep getting the 2 points in front of the members and fans, junior appreciation round and a day game expecting a good crowd.

JD looking forward to the challenge of how we get through origin as well.

But re tomrrow said Tigers are winning a few areas and aren’t playing too badly we are expecting a tough game tomrrow.

Jason Demetriou Media Round 11 v Tigers: https://www.rabbitohs.com.au/news/2023/05/12/jason-demetriou-media-round-11-v-tigers/

Another great chat from JD and it's exactly what I needed to hear. Confident but also very focused and not taking them lightly. He knows the challenge that lays ahead tomorrow.

From Zero Tackle,

Why the Rabbitohs are now the clear team to beat

Following their 28-12 Magic Round win over the Melbourne Storm, I took the ridiculous risk in proclaiming that South Sydney are now premiership favourites.

I know, I know! Declaring the club sitting second on the ladder and one containing three Origin representative players in their spine as title heavyweights is hardly an earth shattering statement, but it's one I very much stand by.

So much so that I'm officially doubling down on it right now.

Following ten rounds of NRL action in 2023 we currently have two sides standing head and shoulders above the rest - the Broncos and the aforementioned Bunnies.

I'd argue that the Panthers, despite their five and four record, are also in a great position. They're the best defensive side in the competition.

Throw in the free-scoring Sharks, the expectation defying Dolphins and the competition's best side on paper, the Roosters, and this competition looks wide open.

That said, despite sitting a win behind the Broncos on the NRL ladder, the Bunnies sit as comfortably the team to beat.

Souths sit seven wins and just the three losses and sit as just one of seven teams yet to enjoy the bye.

This despite playing only the three games at home at Accor Stadium. Full disclosure they did win an "away" game at the same venue.

Currently the Bunnies have scored the fourth highest amount of points whilst conceding the second fewest amount of points.

Simply put, the Bunnies are absolutely flying right now!

Latrell Mitchell is the game's most destructive player and seems to be able to turn it on at any time. He has been breathtaking across the past month where the Bunnies beat the Dolphins, Panthers, Broncos and Storm.

Cody Walker is breathing fire. He's currently leading the try assists tally with 12. He also has 13 line-break assists, 4 forced drop outs and 7 tries of his own.

Campbell Graham is performing at such a high level that pundits are seriously considering moving Tom Trbojevic onto the wing for the Blues for Origin 1.

Alex Johnston simply cannot stop scoring while Isaiah Tass and Taane Milne are playing well beyond their years and experience.

Throw in a seemingly born again Tom Burgess, the eternally consistent Cam Murray and the criminally underrated Lachlan Ilias and this side is ridiculous!

This despite an injury toll that could match anyone other than the Bulldogs.

Keaon Koloamatangi was rampaging toward an Origin debut prior to his long-term injury. Liam Knight has only just returned to football following a horror ACL injury late season himself.

Tevita Tatola has only been available for half the Bunnies games this season. So too Jai Arrow.

Shaquai Mitchell was very quickly making a name for himself in the opening two and a bit games prior to being forced out for two months.

Not once this season have the Bunnies been able to run out their preferred forward pack.

Of course injuries are always going to be a part of the game, and every side is effected at some stage, but the way the Bunnies have continued to win has to be admired.

Across the opening ten weeks of the competition they've played the Sharks, Roosters, Panthers (twice), Storm (also twice), Manly, the Dogs, Dolphins and Brisbane.

You tell any side they're going to win seven of those very difficult fixtures and I can guarantee they'll jump at it.

Especially considering the dream run of fixtures they enjoy over and following the Origin period.

Over the next five weeks the Bunnies play the Tigers, Eels, Raiders, Titans, Dragons before enjoying the week off.

They then face the Cowboys, Warriors, and Dogs before their second bye of the season.

The Eels and Titans shape as the most tricky fixtures for the high flying Bunnies prior to a Round 21 clash with the Broncos.

From there only the Sharks and the Roosters dawn as looking difficult.

No disrespect to the other sides of course but as it stands the Bunnies would be very confident in winning a large majority, if not all of those fixtures.

With the Bunnies certain to lose Latrell Mitchell, Damian Cook, and Cameron Murray to Origin, as well as likely Jai Arrow, Campbell Graham and Tevita Tatola, any opportunity to rest players is worth its weight in gold.

Seemingly "easier" fixtures are absolutely available in the coming weeks. Prior and following Origin to boot.

With Keaon Koloamatangi (due to return in a month or so) starring both out wide and in the middle and Tom Burgess available throughout the entire rep period, Souths are in good stead to reduce minutes for their star forwards.

Going through the remaining fixtures, catastrophe aside, I can't see a way the Bunnies don't finish comfortably in the top four.

In fact a quick run though a ladder projector has the Bunnies winning the Minor Premiership.

Of course upsets, injuries or drop offs in form can strike but this squad is too strong and Jason Demetriou is too good a coach to let the standards slip.

Could this be the year that the Bunnies finally end their run of defeats in the Preliminary Finals/Grand Final?

Unless the Broncos, Sharks or Roosters find their very top, and consistent form, or the Panthers hit their straps in attack, it's hard to see a whole lot standing in their way.

There is a long way to go but as it stands, here in early May, the Bunnies look set for a very special 2023.

Ahhhh yesss! We've reached that time of the week again! Everyone's favourite day of the week, the day we all look forward to. That's right South Sydney members and fans, rise and shine because it's game day!!! A big one awaits today as a great opportunity comes ahead of us in this one. Win, and we go to the top of the ladder so there's a fair bit riding on this. A rare Saturday afternoon game for us, at home, against one of our Sydney rivals. There should be no excuse to not get a big crowd which will make for a big occasion.

Definitely got to be wary of the Tigers today I feel. Not sure what it is about Souths vs Tigers but whenever we play them, more often than not, regardless of how both sides are travelling, they always seem to turn up against us. They always seem to drag us down to their level and drag us into a shit fight. I can't tell ya how many times we've all seen that happen. Just look at that Anzac game last year, that's a perfect example. The one in 2021 where we went to golden point early in the Season too. So I wouldn't say 'bogey side' as such, as we have racked up some big scores against them in the past to, it's more of a side we need to be wary of. I'm expecting nothing less from them today, they'll be up for this one. Their confidence will be high after winning two games in a row for the first time since 2021 or something like that. One of those was against Penrith too so despite their position on the ladder, we simply cannot take them lightly. They're playing some solid Footy. Nothing particularly flash but it's good, solid, gritty Footy. It disrupts teams. They'll come into this one feeling good about themselves and looking for an ambush. Still got plenty of quality in their side lead by the big danger, Koroisau. Then there's guys around him like Klemmer, Papali'i, Bateman, Brooks and the young gun Bula. There's enough there to be a decent side there.

In saying all that, for us, this really isn't a game we should be dropping. If you want to be genuine Premiership contenders, you should be winning games like this, especially if you want to be top two. That's no disrespect to the Tigers, it's just being honest. I said it earlier in the week and I'll say it again, today is all about attitude. If we were to lose, it's not because we were beaten by a better side, it'd be because our attitude was shit. That's the only way we lose this game I feel. It's happened in years gone by against lower sides, but we can't be doing that again. The 2023 Rabbitohs are a different beast so hopefully we'll be sweet. If we get our game right, we win this, it's as simple as that. There's no excuse not to for all the reasons I've stated above. Just keep doing what we've been doing. Keep that defensive tight, complete your sets, don't beat yourselves and execute. I want us to be clinical this arvo. Give them chances, especially early, and they'll get their tales up, so we can't let that happen. The start is crucial and maintain the rage.

An important one today and I'm really looking forward to it! Junior appreciation Round, a home game on a Saturday arvo with a chance to take 1st position on the ladder, how could you not be up for this one?! We can do this, lessssgooooo!!

Glory, Glory.

Well Game Day is upon us and finally we are back at Accor for our 4th home game of the year. And what’s more is it is Saturday Arvo footy. A great time for the footy to bring the family and kids out as well it’s a nice sunny day too. Expecting a good turn out today from our members and fans. We are honouring AJ too after bringing up his 200 games last week. Well what an opportunity we have to go top of the table and go 6 in a row wouldn’t that be great. Whilst some might say it’s an easy game that’s not necessarily the case if you go in thinking any game will be easy you can get your pants pulled down in this competition. We still need to respect the Tigers they’ve won their last 2 for the first time in over a year and they are playing some tough gritty footy. They’ve only been blown off the park once this season so far too. For us if we wanna be potentially a top 2 side these are the games we can’t lose. We need to turn up well focussed and continue playing that Rabbitohs footy that we have been playing. We have been up for quite a few weeks now so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bit of a drop off intensity but hopefully JD and Murray have told the boys that can’t happen we need to stay consistent. The Tigers have given us some real tough games over the years too where we come down a couple of levels and they end up in dogfights and it feels like we have one of these games against them nearly every season. Lets hope that isn’t the case today. Our draw does ease up now but we can’t be complacent we need to keep banking the wins as we near origin.

Looking at the Tigers they’ve found a goodun in Bula this kid is quality. They have Api playing good footy and they have a strong pack there as well who have been ripping in for each other. Brooks has been feeding off the back of Api as well. So we need to be on defensively for me it’s more about how many we concede that I’m concerned about we need to keep defending how we have been and continuing those good habits with our Redfern Wall like type defence. For us well we haven’t said it often of late but we field the same 17 this week so it’s good to have that continuity. If we complete highly we should be ok get those little things right kicking to corners as well and not trying to score off every play we have to do the tough stuff to then allow opportunity for the flashy stuff. Cookie will be looking for a big one against Api no doubt as well.

Ok not long til the players come out here onto Accor Stadium on this sunny Saturday afternoon great to see so much red and green in the stands here to get right behind the boys. Let’s make sure everyone watching on Fox League at home knows this is South Sydney home turf and a South Sydney home game. A special shout out too, to all our very special junior clubs and kids on our junior appreciation round great to see so many of you out here this afternoon.

A very professional performance from the lads!! That's the best way I can describe it. Great feeling to get the win in a gritty, defensive game; Our sixth in a row, AND we are now top of the ladder for now. Yooohoooo!!

As I said, the best way I can describe that is professional. I wouldn't say the boys looked flat, they still turned up, but there's no doubting it wasn't the usual intensity. Still not sure if that was by design or whether it just happened. Nevertheless, the boys got the result. It was never really in doubt. We never got out of second gear and just did enough. Probably exactly what we needed after the last few weeks.

Measured, patient Footy and then struck when we really needed too. Pretty impressive actually. Gave them basically nothing either, very satisfying to hold them to nil in that sort of game.

We did what we needed to and we can march on and be happy tonight! Souths are at the top of the League! Challenge now is to keep it that way.

Awesome win, stoking.

We usually underperform against Wests but that was a really good quality game from both sides i thought and 20-0 doesn't reflect how it went. We deserved the win but credit to Wests, they're really digging in this year

Top of the league boys!

Stats are updated from our game Milne 25 hit ups for 271 metres that’s STAND AND APPLAUD stuff. So many tough carries he was there every time. Actually I thought Campbell, Milne and Trell were our 3 best tonight.

Their tears are delightful our play ball speed was actually slower than theirs. And Api was constantly 2 metres in front of the referee.
