Round 14 Vs Raiders

Panthers coach Anthony Griffin has named his side to face Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium on Friday.

The club is able to name an extended 23-man squad on account of having four players in the NSW Origin side.

Peter Wallace remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, while Waqa Blake (ankle), Moses Leota (pectoral) and Jack Hetherington (suspension) are also unavailable.

The Panthers will wear the 2018 Alternate Jersey.

No Blake is disappointing. No Wallace is fine but a surprise. He declared himself a certainty for this round.

I suggested after the dragons game that Wallace may get the "tap on the shoulder". Team is not improved with him included.

Shame about Blake. Must really have been a serious ankle injury. If he was able to play, you think he would have been a certainty to be named. Might even mean that he is more than a week or so away from coming back.

I'm sure Brandy said last week Blake is running now.

Yes, I was thinking the same. Wal's last remaining strength was his defence. It all adds up. Glad he got his 100 games for us.

With the rep round coming up. you have to think he's doubtful against the Roosters as well.

It is definitely odd when on NRL.com only a few days ago, Wallace declared that he would be fit for the game against Canberra, and that he could even have played against the Dragons if required

These two are why I think it is a quiet tap on the shoulder.

He trained the Thursday before the Dragons game so has to be close. This is where that 21 man squad rule is bad. Can't name him incase the other 4 don't back up

The extra time won't hurt I guess. He'll be nice and ready to go next week maybe. That's the glass half full version.

Just listened to the Six Again with Gus podcast. He doesn't expect any of the 4 to back up given the travel to Sydney and then to Canberra in less than 48 hours.

If none of them do back up, I'm guessing Luai and May in the halves, Tamou to start with Lui Toso to debut off the vench, and probably Eisenhuth in the centres.

Perhaps.

Will give us a good idea of whether Gus or Griffin is in control of the team as if at least three back up then it was most likely Griffin's call. Regardless I really hope Maloney or Cleary plays otherwise I think we lack experience/direction in our spine.

Wallace is well known to be injury prone and he's played injured throughout without it getting reported to add to that. Seems much more likely than a tap on the shoulder consider how well liked he is by the playing group.

And if that is true this "injury" would've come after the Origin period. We need him now because if both halves can't back up things get a little grim. May and Luai are both 5/8s and are playing with real no organizing half. Luai is trying but he isn't going so well playing as a halfback instead of a roaming 5/8 like he usually is.
