Round 14 Vs Raiders

Just listened to the Six Again with Gus podcast. He doesn't expect any of the 4 to back up given the travel to Sydney and then to Canberra in less than 48 hours.

If none of them do back up, I'm guessing Luai and May in the halves, Tamou to start with Lui Toso to debut off the vench, and probably Eisenhuth in the centres.

Perhaps.

They can’t get a direct flight to Canberra?

That’s poor organisation if so, there’s many daily flights.

I thought the same thing. It isnt just poor organisation but stupid if they fly back to Sydney first.

It could of course be mind games from Gus, hoping to lead the Raiders into a false sense of security.

There's certainly suffiicient direct flights from Melbourne to Canberra on Thursday.

I think the SOO team have commitments including recovery session's on the Thursday morning and I am sure our players who pull up okay will make there way to Canberra on a flight after lunch time.

I would hope at the very least one of our halves would be in a position to back up against the Raiders.

Effective kicking in general play is such a critical part of the game and I'm not sure the May - Luai combination would be able to get the job done. I like the fact Luai is a left footer and he has a kicking game but it is a big ask for someone playing his second NRL game to be our number one kicker from general play on Friday night.

I am a bit perplexed about Wallace. If he was tapped on the shoulder, surely it was thought through.

Which would suggest the club wouldn't post this article:

https://www.penrithpanthers.com.au/news/2018/05/30/returning-wallace-weighing-up-his-future/

To me it seems more like he has re-aggravated the injury. I would think Hook would believe his experience will be vital in the finals so I think we will see Wallace return shortly but the indefinite time period on the injury is suspicious. Then again it could just be linked to the fact it may be like a hamstring where they need to be cautious.

I sadly think its a bloke with a white beard and stick called Father time and the injuries that he brings. It sounds like his mind is writing cheques his body is refusing to cash.

I'm sure he'd be in the team for this weekend if fit.

2 points are always important. But if it's at the risk of injury we are better off playing it safe considering our podition on the ladder.

Assuming no injury concerns of the 4 players.

Peachey should easily backup. He will play 20 or 30 minutes you would think. Hardly a huge boost on his typical workload.

RCG I think could backup easily also. I doubt he gets 60 minutes in an Origin match. But even if he did we can just cut his minutes down for us. Give him 20 minutes and let Merrin, Tamou, JFH and Ellis split the 40 he misses. He and Peachey are safe bets.

Cleary should be loe risk too. He's young and in terrific shape, but most importantly he has not long returned from a long stint on the sidelines. He can do the 160 minutes without fear of burnout. Although it will also be his most intense and physical match ever. He might be too sore to backup.

Maloney? Not worth the risk at all IMO. We cant afford to throw much of an extra workload on him. He could probably do it just fine. But I would rather play it safe with him even if the other 3 couldnt backup. He's not as young or as fit as these other 3. He's the guy we need fit and firing in the finals. Finishing first is pointless if our guys are too busted to go on with it in the finals.

I don’t know he’s an experienced athlete, he would know his body well enough. We have looked better with Katoa/Egan all season including one of our best wins in years last week. It’s an awkward situation with him being captain, playing him in reserve grade will be seen as a dropping and a chance for the media to stir shit, i think they have had the talk and will keep him on ice for the year I case he is needed.

The word from the club was out for "an indefinite period"

This may suggest that he has been asked to sit out, but it has been done with the dignity and respect he deserves.

He is not an idiot, he would have seen how well Katoa etc went.

Yep I suspect that is exactly the case. It works out so well if Wallace steps away now, Katoa has shown he is ready to start and has plenty to offer and Egan has shown he is a fantastic prospect and is ready for FG but not quite ready to start(service needs to be better). They even compliment each other well as a 1 2 punch at hooker. Katoa engages the markers better and provides better service to the halves and forwards and when the game opens up a little Egan is a much bigger running threat.

The problem becomes at full strength we can only play one hooker neither look to be able to play the full 80 yet. I can't see Wallace playing NSW Cup no doubt he will get a farewell game before the end of the year. I'd be fine with that

If we make the GF he'll want to play.
