Not worth the risk. Its just not. Its probably an 8hr flight. Not ideal for the players to be sitting down that long after origin and not doing any recovery etc. They wouldnt leave till Thursday probably 8am flight.

Time difference between perth and Auckland theyd lose 3hrs i think. So wouldnt get in till probably 7 at night. At the hotel by 8 at best.

So Thursday is a right off. Leaves friday... one day for recovery and some physio work and then match day..

Ifs not worth the risk. The back ups just need to step up.
It’s 100% worth the risk. We need that win.

I'd at least expect the players to approach the coach about it. I don't really like it happening but the option is available to us so I expect it's being heavily weighed up.

Cleary is the one to pick and the others if they can handle it. I wouldn't with To'o and the rumoured hammy. Alamoti can do his impression of To'o next week.

Is it? You're saying one game now is worth the possibility of loosing multiple later. If Yeo or cleary especially get injured which has happened to Nathan before due to origin work loads and why the club has its current stance on backing up.

Too will definitely not play he is in doubt for origin no way if he plays both origin and Penrith games could you let him play
Yeo was replaced on the weekend suffering fatigue no way he back up
The rest debatable depending on how physical the origin games is

Obviously they don’t play if they are hurt, but that was the same for the last game

options are:

1. Back up against the Warriors in Round 16 - Origin players need to get a flight from Perth to NZ Wednesday night/Thursday morning to NZ - 2 days rest before game day (1 of those days is travelling to NZ)

2. Back up against the Eels Rnd 19 - 3 days rest and no flight required as Origin and game against Eels is in Sydney

personally i think we should cop the hit next week and rest Origin guys for NZ game.

interesting sidenote - both games for Round 17 (Dogs) and Round 20 (Souths) - are on a 5 day turnaround - so not only do we have to decide if they backup after origin, the following week is a 5 day turnaround

we really get screwed during Origin period

It’s fascinating to watch some of you justify risking our star players careers. It is unprofessional to ask rugby league players to back up
Nonsense.

If they are fit, it’s not an issue, if they are carrying injuries, that’s a different story.

A player can be perfectly fit and get injured due to the increased work load. You not only have to consider the recovery of individual muscles/joints etc you also have an overall system recovery and mental fatigue as well. The risk is greater than people really think which is made worse by having to do rushed flights from one side of the country all the way to NZ.

Rugby league isn't soccer. This bullshit thinking needs to be left in the past
Please, the Panthers high performance team have the players training load and recovery regime down to the hour. It’s an actual science.

Unless they say it can’t be done, I won’t be listening.

A charter flight from Perth to Auckland, with only Penrith Players and staff, is not that big a deal when you compare it to what others do on the Daily for work.

Fwiw, I'd trust our medical staff in general, they've done a great job these past few years, but the idea its a science with certain outcomes is just not correct. Its a science of probabilities and trade-offs. You play multiple games in a short period of time and the risk of injuries goes up. I dont think that should be controversial. The staff would have a better idea of what the specific risks would be for individual players, but let's not pretend that shoehorning them into a game on another continent two days after they played the highest intensity iteration of the sport in existence doesn't increase the risk of injuries.

And if Nath or Yeo go down its genuinely lights out for 2025, not "oh we would have liked to have won that tough game and it puts more pressure on us later in the year", its just season over. Let's not pretend this is an easy call, there are significant risks here and we're only talking about increasing the odds of 2 points against a red hot Warriors team in their own backyard. It'd have to be a pretty clear cut decision medically and logistically for it to be worth it imo.

Most people don't spend their work day getting bashed, also don't know too many people with a commute equivalent to a Perth to Aukland flight.

Even if they did it and managed to get the 2 points, which is no guarantee given how we have played this year, the flow on into the Dogs game would be tough. I'd rather they be fresh for the Dogs game.

Military, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Ambos, hell even wards-man at hospitals….

Then we’ve got the tradesman… that list is huge…

The point is, lots of people out there have extremely physical jobs and put on long hours, day after day. They don’t have the care and treatment that the NRL players get.

So this isn’t really that big a stretch….

As a tradie who used to regularly crank out 12 hour days 6 days a week this is hilarious.
