Round 16 vs Eels

What's disappointing in all this is that there have been ample occasions for the likes of Host, Kerr, Lawrie, Sele etc. to get really good game time in preparation for stepping in to give our rep players a rest. Whilst I'm for the rep players playing on the luxury of ready to go back ups would have been a comfort knowing how we faded at the end of last year.
I just hope it doesn't bite us again.

I think we have a problem in so far as the youngsters coming through are not playing to a standard that demands first grade selection. We have youngsters with promise who have not as yet realised their potential. Either we have the wrong players or they are not being developed properly.

I would have thought the likes of Kerr, Lawrie, Host, Sele, Lomax and Herbert would be demanding first grade selection by now.

Sele needs to be brought in on the bench. JDB, Ah Mau, Graham and Vaughan won’t be playing there usual minutes because they’re backing up so Sele will need to pick up the slack in the middle.

No idea why he put Luc on the bench (a second rower) when both ours are completely fresh off a 2 week break.

What an interesting place this forum is
One minute some people championing everything about the team and then at moments like this they state how nervous they are
It is time for everyone to stand up for what they really believe and stop the carry on
If you are in the “I feel a premiership coming on” or the “we have improved under Mc Fookknuckle” or the “we are top 4 camp” then you should be a true believer and state we will whip the Eels like a top contender should and nothing short of that is acceptable.
For those that are in the “wait & see if we crash camp” then this week is a defining moment because if ever we are going to crash this surely must be it?
For me I believe we should smash the Eels as they are truly shitfull and if we don’t then any premiership thoughts can be put on hold due to the coach’s inability to get the team up in season defining contests.
If we do smash the Eels then nobody has anything to worry about at least until next week anyway.

We should smash the Eels, they truely are the worst team in the comp, thier pack is terrible, thier backs disorganised.
But will we?
Everyone is worried about the 4 year trend of McGragor not being able to get the team to perform against poor teams, it’s been going on for far too long.
Beating Manly may have been the first step in over coming this culture, if we beat the Eels well tonight it will be the second.

I think that the Dragons have better forwards if our ISP players stand up however the Eels backs are pretty fast even with Radrada missing. Let us all keep our fingers crossed that the team defends well and injuries are not a factor.

My take is - if this were a regular season game without the rep players backing up, we’d straight up murder the eels. With that cloud however I think that can be downgraded to Grevous bodily harm and I’d still be happy.

If the bench is used correctly he doesn't need to play 80 just as Frizz doesn't need to play 80.
Host is a good player and an excellent hole runner, so the big question for me is, will we use him correctly and have some plays developed around him and use him to attack the Eels or is he just there to tackle and hit it up 1 out?
When our young guys have previously played I feel that there is no real game plan to include them in the attack side of the equation and that is somewhat why they don't look effective during the game or in the wash up of the stats.
If you are there to only tackle and hit it up then any mistake or error you make stands out like dogs balls and you have little or no chance of redeeming yourself.
Many a mistake is forgiven on the basis that you did something really special to create a scoring opportunity.
Trying to defend our way to victory is the wrong way to approach this game and how the game plan pans out will tell me everything I need to know about whether our team and coaching staff have in fact learnt anything and really progressed forward from previous seasons.

Parramatta I think will attack our middle to test out Vaughan’ Graham and JDB. Graham should perhaps play the first 20 minutes and maybe the last 20 minutes of the game. However if we have the game wrapped up in the second half leave him on the bench.
Widdop and Hunt need to take control of the game. May needs to make sure the bench is handled correctly.
Parramatta do appear to be OK for the first 30 minutes each game but fade away in the second half.
People are calling this an easy game. I don’t think it will be, there are no easy games from now on’

My gut feeling is we will win this game because:

1) Our SOO players are on a mental high and will be keen to show they are rep players
2) The Pommies crushed NZ, so Widdop and Graham will also be running high on adrenalin
3) Parra is last for a reason, they are dead drop ugly over 80 minutes
4) Our hooker and fullback will carve up the Eels through the middle
5) Aitken will have a big game
6) Benny Hunt will be keen to put in a big game to erase his memory of SOO 2

Key is we need to start fast.

Playing at home we got this one.
