Yep we lack class.
Guys like brandy or freddie or gowie...we dont have.

Just look at the current or former internationals or origin players in the Newcastle team today.
More than half of them.

Panthers...hey Timmy one soo.. whare kiwis ..any others?

We were just outgunned by a far better side.
Just another season ruined by injuries for us...Why does that happen so often.?

Anyway next week will be harder against the sharks.

Pretty apparent that we simply got rolled by a bigger forward pack yesterday. We really missed Sam, Sika & Nigel in particular. Wouldn't have minded having Matt Robinson out there either. Once Docker was forced off injured, we were left with no starch in defence.

Injury list is really hurting us now. Agree with the general theme, John has been disappointing of late, and we are lacking class.

Not blaiming him for the loss at all but can Wes Pass? A few time I thought there was a bit of space for Roberts but he just held it.

Anyway was pretty disapointing all round yesterday.

I counted 3 times we had the overlap on Roberts side and Wes took it himself every single one of those times.

Not sure what the game plan was - kick on the 3rd to Uate so he has 30m of open space in front of him? Hmmm....doesnt sound very effective, but what do I know.

Whare's try was an OBVIOUS no try. It actually annoys me they awarded it. Don't get me wrong, sometimes you get the rub of the green but for them to miss that makes it clear the refs have no idea what's going on out there.

Taking the 2pts when leading 6-4. WTF????

Roberts had a shocker with his ball carries. Was unfortunate because he does a lot of quality things just to let them be undone by the mistakes (case in point - Mansour.)

I'll finish by saying....when Clint Newton and Cameron Ciraldo are among your top 5 players on the day, it's not looking good.

Thought Brown had a great game (a part from the 1 big misread in defense), as did Moylan.

Great post - my thoughts exactly

Whether Manu's back or not. Now that Snowden got suspended from the knee that broke Docker's jaw. Surely we can play someone else outside top 25.

The fact it was missed is proof the ref's had no idea what was going on.

Naiqama must be stamped never to play again terrible in attack and defence

How long did Snowden get? Didnt look great on replay but Docker does go in low, not knee level low though.

Said at the time I thought those raised knees were grubby. Glad I've been proven right.

So sick of f**king injuries. Feels like every game there's a couple more on the list.

Had to work yesterday and so couldn't watch the game, but was the kicking on the third meant to force an error from Uate? He is infamous for being rubbish at catching kicks, although I don't think he actually has been bad for a long time now. That sort of tactic must have come from the coach. CLeary has done some great things but he apparently makes some odd decisions here and there.

Did we have a choice about playing Wes? I thought our cap situation meant we had to play guys like him when they were fit. Perhaps we don't have a choice but to play him if we want to keep others int he first grade side.

I watched Kevin Naiqama play NSW cup on Saturday, and guess what like his older brother. Kevin can't tackle either. And add Will Smith to that list too.

Can we stop signing Newcastle rejects PLEASE

When Docker left the field, we were looking at a roster missing Plum, Docker, McKendry and Manu. Basically the entire pack except for Tim Grant (Hookers are more like backs these days but you could argue we had 2/6 starting players). We had to play 60 minutes without Docker and our bench forward Latimore was coming back from a 15 week long injury.

A quick glance at the stats tells you all you need to know about the game (I was there at Centrebet). Their backs carved us up like roast beef on a spit. Their forwards made more metres, but not especially so and Grant was only behind Houston by 4m for most metres by a forward. In fact, up until Docker went off, we were giving it to them in defence.

WIthout doubt, our poor ball control and penalties gave them easy metres and their back line showed us what we are missing at Penrith - strike power at the pointy end. Two rep wingers and a rep fullback made all the difference in attack and they run the tram lines out wide really well. It also didn't help giving Boyd plenty of space and giving him the ball on the full (not one of Luke's best days). If anyone doubted whether Boyd is:
a) Fast and elusive; and
b) Starting to get back to the form he is capable of.
Then I think we answered those questions with a yes. Maybe Luke forgot how good in open field Boyd is, I think he knows now.

Conversely with our backs, Roberts tried too hard and dropped the ball when he made a break and Whare had a day he will want to forget in defence with 5 missed tackles. Those who bag Moylan for not stopping Uate when he streaked down the Eastern touchline are kidding. Coming across field at an angle like that is one of the hardest things to do as a fullback and double the degree of difficulty when the player you are trying to hit tops the league in tackle breaks and has an arse so big, it has its own satellites. Moylan is also in his first season of first grade and his body has not yet got the required muscle to deal with all the rigours of top level football. He will struggle at times, but you can get stronger in the gym, but you can't coach bravery and skill and he has plenty of both. Apart from this mistake in watching the ball in goal that led to the try, I thought he did really well against a team that was on top, dominating field position and scorching the turf. He brought the ball back really strongly as well and in fact matched Boyd for kick return metres.

I was not disappointed by their effort, just by our bad luck and the result. Last year we would have lost by a mozza and probably failed to score.

IMO it appeared to be a planned move to try and get a 40 20 - due to the windy conditions. Though pointless when the winger has already dropped back.

Roberts is killing us with the mistakes atm. Sportsbet should run a special on him each game.
Total tries vs total errors......errors is well ahead in all games bar one so far.

Shut up.

A loss alway brings out the whinging merkins.

We've had arguably our best season for recruitment in recent history, certainly the best two years back to back I can remember and you are whinging about singing two young players from Newcastle, one who is widely considered a massive talent(Kevin) and the other tbh I know nothing about.

Seriously get back in your hole.

Ashton I sincerely enjoy a lot of your posts as you clearly has a sound knowledge particularly in relation to our juniors. This one is a little disappointing and negative as surely we should be allowed to look forward to our new recruits without discarding them before they have even pulled on our jumper. I know nothing about Will Smith and admit have seen little of Kevin Naigama but an insider friend of mine within the Panthers seems to think he is a 'gun' and will be an automatic selection for us in 2014? Let's not write either off at this point in time and let's hope they add value to our roster for next season.

Kevin Naiqama is a gun, I've seen him play over 15 times now and have not seen a defensive problem!! He must have had a bad day.

You may very well be right on the defensive front - only time will tell (I have seen nothing to suggest this in my admittedly limited viewings of Kevin playing) but he is certainly no reject.

Bennett admits he is too good to play reserves and simply never got a chance to flourish behind Newcastle's back three and Knights fans are pretty damn unhappy about losing him.

Yep. We have too many Knights rejects to count with the likes of Luke Walsh, Brad Tighe, Clint Newton, Cameron Ciraldo and the worst signing in the past few years in Wes Naiqama. But Kevin Naiqama isn't close to a Knights reject... he's a quality player stuck behind a representative trio of Boyd, Uate and McManus. At most other clubs he would have been a first grader well and truly before now... and I think he will be a superstar in first grade for us.

He also has a great try scoring strike rate, with 9 tries in 12 games for the Knights. Not bad considering his appearances have been covering injury or Origin duties... meaning he wasn't even really part of a full strength Knights squad. But IMO the full strength Knights side have lost nothing when he has come in to replace these guys.
